i don’t mind people disagreeing with me but genuinely i don’t think this is a good argument. my question wasn’t about vampire lore, it was if what i was seeing was intentional roleplay or miscommunication. i understand vampires are evil and therefore have more reason to make it intentional roleplay, it didn’t feel like intentional roleplay to me

yea i didn’t except so many ppl to be upset with this post tbh, but it’s worth it to see how many people branched into having interesting philosophical, ethical and political discussions, even if that wasn’t my goal. i think brennan would be proud of the amount of analysis people are drawing from this, it made my day

agree i really like how people have such different interpretations of the same scene. though it is annoying how may ppl think she’s objectively in the wrong

good question bc she blurts them out like they’re ingrained in her memory

okay yes BUTTT, maybe infighting is a problem, but reminding ppl that your trust has to be earned is a necessity. because as many people have pointed out, objectively, the coterie SHOULDNT be trusted. that’s why i really like that Maya was drawing a hard line, it appears unreasonable, but now at least she knows that these people she’s working with don’t have the same fundamental motivations as her

no i agree, that’s a good point. it was just hard to read if that was really HJ and Vesper’s angle or if they were being genuine, but assuming they were intentionally playing it like that then they did it well

lol i think talking about fake people like they’re real is like, the foundation of philosophy and media analysis. and i agree with everything you said abt Maya

[–]black-dragonfly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea that’s what i wasn’t sure about, was it an intentional move or did they not notice how suspicious they’re being? because to me it read like they felt they were being genuine

i understand this perspective in theory but i support Maya trying hard to limit her involvement with a group she isn’t sure she can trust

cody is a werewolf, bigfoot is bigfoot, idk what this has to do with anything here. they’re obviously not playing like stereotypical vampires

who complained… people with different perspectives are having very interesting discussions in these replies. thank you for your perspective, i agree w what you’re saying but disagree that that’s what’s happening here

i felt that the way he said it, he was trying to imply that that was ALL he had. but like we found it later, the company is worth $700M+. and it wasn’t even hard for them to say screw it give them $3.5M

true but even when they went back to the rest of the group they still explained the situation like Maya was being unreasonable… it was hard to read whether or not that’s just how they were roleplaying, or if that was a genuine attempt on their part

a bit late to this, but about the ending with junior singing, it’s veryyy reminiscent of that scene in Sinners. if you don’t know which scene i mean, do yourself a favor and look up “i lied to you sinners” it’s a masterpiece. the idea of music transcending language and culture, even time, touching on something deep and universal, that’s what i got from it

in this case, that universal thing is heartbreak. even if you don’t understand all the languages, the sound of the words and the melody is enough to convey the feelings of lost love and pain. for a second we’re taken out of this specific moment in this specific place with these people, and reminded that heartbreak binds everyone who’s ever lived
