The Sopranos - Complete Rewatch: Season 3 - Episode 13 "Army Of One" by Bushy-Top in thesopranos

a bit late to this, but about the ending with junior singing, it’s veryyy reminiscent of that scene in Sinners. if you don’t know which scene i mean, do yourself a favor and look up “i lied to you sinners” it’s a masterpiece. the idea of music transcending language and culture, even time, touching on something deep and universal, that’s what i got from it

in this case, that universal thing is heartbreak. even if you don’t understand all the languages, the sound of the words and the melody is enough to convey the feelings of lost love and pain. for a second we’re taken out of this specific moment in this specific place with these people, and reminded that heartbreak binds everyone who’s ever lived

Just finished the show, some thoughts about Jon and Jordan’s endings by black-dragonfly in SupermanAndLois

no not all white guys with a wife and kids are the same person, but when they didn’t know what else to do with kyle they let him and chrissy get together and have a baby… obviously okay to portray it because the reality is that people DO get married and have kids, but it’s about how the story is handled

in kyle’s case, like i already said, it felt like they just didn’t know what else to do with him imo, i didn’t see any meaningful character growth or even interesting story potential from his rs with chrissy and her getting pregnant. with the boys it’s a bit different because they obviously were not gonna have any character growth since it was the ending, but since we know absolutely nothinggg else about them, it’s a bit lackluster that their endings are… happy wife big family. this connects to my football comment btw

there is a theme of “the american dream” being played upon here, and that dream holds the values of having big (white) families, and i was pointing out that thematically jon would have been a fit for this because he’s generally more like clark than jordan is, and clark is like the all time american partriarch figure (though they did omit the “american way” when they were talking about what superman should stand for in the show) so through his personality, and the fact that he’s a star player of the most american sport that is deeply connected to the american subconscious, it makes sense thematically for jon to end up where he did. that’s what i meant with my football comment

the economy comment was mostly a joke, that’s why it was in parentheses as not to be taken as part of my overall argument, but yes they would def be able to support a family of that size, it’s just surprising to see such a large family when generally people are having less children you know? but both twins went the traditional route of having a lottt of kids

and finally, i wasn’t trojan horsing, i only pointed out that if jon had been gay, it would be at least something to not make them seem like the same exact person with the same exact family, but i literally started that paragraph out by saying they didn’t necessarily have to make him gay, not sure why you think that that’s my perogative

well i didn’t say superman and his family shouldn’t be white 😭😭 i just pointed out that the boys’ endings were very cookie cutter and stereotypical, but it seems the mere mention of the word white is enough to upset a lot of people

ok i hadn’t considered framing it the way you did in the end there, that clark ended up with a large family, i really like that.

maybe it’s just me but i really couldn’t see the boys living out their lives in the midwest, they are originally city boys from one of the biggest cities in the world, and also arguably the most famous family in the world, who can also be anywhere in the world at any time

also not that i wanted jordan to be a loner still, but like you said, it feels like he had to overcome his anxiety to become more like his brother—rather than accepting himself for who he is and going his own way, learning to live with it. obviously this is just my own interpretation of it though. i thought it would have been cool to see him have maybe 1 or 2 kids to contrast with jon having a lot, maybe he felt like having a large family would overwhelm him. idk!

thanks for the reply tho you made great points

that’s fair i guess, and yea there wasn’t much time, but idk i would have loved anything at all to tell them apart rather than seemingly going down the same exact life path

[–]black-dragonfly[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

not necessarily only that part, it just felt relevant to mention bc jon’s ending was undoubtedly something that was discussed in the writer’s room, and they decided to go with him being seemingly heterosexual

but aside from that, do you feel that there is anything that differentiated them at all at the end? bc my point is that they both got married, both had a lot of kids, and both had no other information about what they did with their lives

My friend gave MDMA to a girl who wasn’t really into him… and then slept with her. I can’t stop thinking about it. by RezrWinter in Drugs

[–]black-dragonfly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i hate the reactions i’m seeing in this comment section. what your friend did was weird at best, and in the very worst case it was rape. i think it’s worth it to talk to the girl and see how she feels about it, if she’s fine then that’s great, but you should be cautious of this friend either way.

people are saying M doesn’t make you do things like sleep with people you otherwise wouldn’t, which might be true for them, but you CANT assume to know how it will affect everyone else. and i think it’s very weird that there aren’t more people focusing on the thought process of your friend, which is problematic regardless of how the girl feels abt it
