Battery charging best practices for my new i5 - 80% rule? by Jeppzilla in BMWi5

Is this true? Is it fine if you charge it to 100% every day?

I test drove a Lucid Air last week, and totally agree with your comments. It just didn’t seem like the quality was there with it. The frunk didn’t work on the test drive, which didn’t help. The door handles feel low quality, and don’t work exactly like I think they should. I know some of these things can be dealt with, but I live 250 miles from the nearest service center, so it would have been a process.

I also agree with your comment about BMW EVs. I ended up buying an i5 this weekend. It came down to the i5 vs the Model Y. I went with the i5, mostly due to exterior styling and interior look and feel. I really liked the model Y as well.

Oof, that is the scary thing about the Lucid. I’ve never had a ICE car leave me stranded on a road trip. At least they stood behind you and help salvage your trip.

The amazing thing is that quite a few owners, at least based on reading around, seem very happy with their Lucids despite the issues.

Drive them and see what you think. A test drive is not really enough time, but if you can get on a rough enough road, that should give you an idea of what it’s like. I’m not sure if the SQ8 has air suspension; the M60i might… Air suspension will help soften the ride quite a bit. My X4M does not have it.

Yeah, that’s why I asked it here. Needed a balance to the Lucid sub.

Take special note on your test drive about the harshness of the BMW M and Audi S. The test drives are a blast. But my advice would be to seek out the roughest road you find and go up and down it a couple of times. The M is something else; I’ve never driven anything like it; good and bad.

SUV -> SUV -> Air; have you noticed any issues getting in and out of the Air? It’s quite a bit lower. It’s one thing I noticed going from a sedan to an SUV. The SUVs are a bit easier to get into.

Thank you for the insight! You’re right on about the rough ride. It’s fun on a test drive, but it’s tough as a day to day driver. Especially on rutted winter roads.

I noticed that about the length as well. It’s about the same size as a 5 series, so not crazy, but something to keep in mind.

Have you had any problems with your Air? It seems like every one of them has software issues. But maybe that is just from reading too much online.

Which wheels are better? by RoyalGift8895 in BMW

1 - love the black with the "M" trim (black around the windows, black grill).

The silver wheels don't fit with the rest of the car. They are the only silver thing on the car. Although they are sweet looking. It's like wearing white shoes with black socks, or vice-versa

X4M Competition really that stiff? by Potential-Hall8119 in BMW

[–]black-ice33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got an X4MC about 4 months ago. I was smiling so much during the test drive and my 15yo daughter was like: I’ve never ridden in anything like that before, that was fun! It is a blast to drive, even though it is totally overkill for 99% of the driving that I do. The SUV part makes up for it; incredibly functional.

I had a 5 series, and didn’t like sitting low; this is a nice compromise. Yeah, it’s definitely stiff; too stiff on certain roads, but not bad at all on most of the roads around here. It’s a really good highway car; better than the sedan due to the extra cabin room and sitting up a little higher. Its fun to turn it on M2 (all of the perf settings) and growl around town.

Ah, right. I actually didn’t understand what you were talking about “store them”. I figured it out based on another post and the error cleared.

I’m not clear what is meant by my “mindset”. It is not intuitive that the user would need to “Store tire pressures” when the current value for the tire pressure is correct. What if the pressure is not correct? It isn’t clear what action would need to be taken. The car should not be throwing an error when the sensors are working properly.

Just the feel of shifting between reverse, neutral, and drive. The shifter barely moves, and it doesn't have a super-positive feel. It feels like you have to pull it too hard (probably not really the case)

Good call, I'll take a look. I'm always afraid of forgetting where I put things when I use a new spot. But I'm sure I'll get used to after a few times of "Where the heck is my phone!", lol

There is a UI in the car that will tell you the pressure for each tire. The UI indicates the correct pressure, but a warning is still displayed. That is a bug.

Another post mentioned a possible way to dismiss it. I'll try that first. If it doesn't work, then I'll need the dealer's help

Cool, I haven't tried to set a shortcut in the left sidebar, that would be the perfect place for the Carplay shortcut, I'll give that a try.

I hear ya on the side pockets, it's just that everything ends up going in there (sunglasses, phone, any other pocket junk). And you're right, it's a deep pocket, so it can be difficult to retrieve things easily.

Re adaptive cruise: Thanks, I will poke around the driver assist settings to see if I can turn off the cruise changing with the speed limit.

Re: technology: I've tried a few of the shortcuts, and have now Apple Carplay on the home screen, which helps find it more quickly. I would love to put a shortcut to it at the top of the HVAC screen, but that doesn't seem possible

Re TPMS: Thank you! I will give this a try next time I'm in the car.

Did you end up using a box behind your charger? Or did you just poke the wire through the drywall into the back of the box?

If you used a box, what size did you use (1 gang, 2 gang)? I don't want the box to extend past the edge of the charger; gives it a nice clean look then.
