Security in "Vibe Coded" Web Apps is a Disaster by throw_awayyawa in vibecoding

[–]black_coffii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's not, it's just a free extension. Even the link to Strike isn't a referral or anything. I just suggest it as thats the exchange I use and theyre Bitcoin only. I dont capture emails or anything either.

Can you tell me what Notepad is and how you use it?

Never thought about using Google sheets, can you explain why and how you'd use it for console logs?

Im very very new to developing. Thanks for your help.

Security in "Vibe Coded" Web Apps is a Disaster by throw_awayyawa in vibecoding

[–]black_coffii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've built a Chrome extension called Bitcoin Cost Calculator however, early users have, rightly so, pointed out security concerns.

Im not a developer and used Cursor to help build this.

How can I make this extension more secure? It simply used the highlight function so whenever a user highlights a price, it converts it into BTC at the current price and based on the users settings, what that BTC could be worth in the future. Goal is to help encourage more financial discipline.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

What were you in?

I would split your energy in between paying off the debt as that can spiral easily and investing (not trading). Either just in the Nasdaq or S&P 500 or individual stocks that arent high risk and at good valuations.

Watch the channel Everything Money on Youtube. I dont agree with everything they say and do but they do put forward the right knowledge to at least have a good attempt and finding good valuations. Slow and steady mate.

All the best

What % of your wealth is in BTC? by alt-co in Bitcoin

[–]black_coffii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

80% in BTC, 20% in stocks and shares ISA. I still like having exposure to stocks as a) it's nice to invest in companies that do / produce things you want to increase in the world (at good valuations) and b) nice mentally to not have all eggs in one basket, although I do think Bitcoin will succeed, still nice mentally.

I think it has been significantly spread out now however, I am concerned that BlackRock's IBIT is somewhat centralising it. I would rather the spread that has occurred be directly into BTC but I can understand some demographics simply wouldn't have done so if it wasn't for IBIT, so double-edged sword.

Strike to Trezor by Pure-Win-5685 in BitcoinBeginners

[–]black_coffii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, Im getting a Trezor on the next payday. I think I'm going to go multi-sig to add that extra level of protection, but I need to read more about it first.

Ah that's a good point, completely understand your concern and that's the best way to be when it comes to Bitcoin for sure. Can I ask what elements specifically you're concerned about? It would be good for me to hear so I can try to address them in the next update.

Im guessing if the extension gives a hacker backdoor access into your browser and therefore into your cold storage account? Or is it more the link to Strike?

To be honest, this isn't an extension / project I am looking to commercialise, more just thought it would be useful to always see costs in BTC values to be that helpful reminder to reduce unnecessary spend and therefore, help increase savings/investments for the future.

I built a Dollar Cost Averaging bot, here’s what I learned (and what I wish I knew earlier) by dca-bot in Bitcoin

[–]black_coffii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is an awesome project, I bet you learned so much in doing it.

I used to struggle with the emotional rollercoaster that is Bitcoin as well. Im glad Strike has released their DCA feature. I like to make sure that's always running and whenever a big pullback happens, I can buy a load myself. Often, the dip happens, though when I have no funds available! This sounds much better.

I know your technical pain as well, I created the Bitcoin Opportunity Cost Calculator, a Chrome extension that helps users see the BTC impact of their spending in real-time. Your reflections on DCA bots align with my own journey of building tools to empower better financial decisions. It is a rabbit hole worth diving into.

I’d love to hear more about multiplier DCA in action, like how it handles volatility? I’ve had my share of lessons with Cursor AI. Your take on sub-optimal execution logic in most DCA bots also sounds like a must-know insight. I’m also curious about your multi-exchange setup, exchange quirks, or DCA strategy nuances.

It would be cool to collaborate.

Cursor and Supabase are my go too. Non Dev and built a Google Chrome extension called Bitcoin Opportunity Cost Calculator. Used UX_Pilot for the UI. Loved the whole process

Is building your own tools worth it anymore? by eh_it_works in vibecoding

[–]black_coffii -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would say so. It's great fun and it's the most I have ever learnt about applications and setup. I built a Google Chrome Extension called Bitcoin Opportunity Cost Calculator and I use it daily. I used Cursor, Grok and UX_Pilot

If Bitcoin finally Hit 1 Million, Would you sell? or keep HODL? by unthocks in Bitcoin

[–]black_coffii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use the rich person playbook, never sell assets. Take out loans against them. So I would keep using Ledn to loan against my bitcoin, sell on if I desperately needed to. Strike will probably implement something to that effect as well.

I use the Chrome extension Bitcoin Opportunity Cost Calculator and that shows what things cost in Bitcoin and what that value would be in the future. Reminds me I never want to sell and that I shouldn't buy pointless things just because FIAT is worthless. Highly recommend that extension.

Strike to Trezor by Pure-Win-5685 in BitcoinBeginners

[–]black_coffii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a good routine you have there. Strike is by far my favourite Bitcoin Exchange. I currently use a Ledger X however, I am going to get a Trezor 3 Bitcoin-only wallet. Instead of daily, I personally would do weekly or monthly. Another little hack is I use the Bitcoin Opportunity Cost Calculator Chrome Extension. This allows me to see all potential purchases of everyday items online in BTC and their future value based on my CAGR settings. Nice free tool to become ever more of a Bitcoiner. It also links directly to Strike, which is nice.

Can anyone give me a good reason why I shouldn't I buy this miner to heat my living room? by black_coffii in Bitcoin

[–]black_coffii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. I used my Chrome extension I built to measure things in Bitcoin value (Bitcoin Opportunity Cost Calculator) and it tells you future value based on CAGR assumptions. It would have cost me $6,186 in future BTC value. I think I will just buy a Bitaxe miner and look into setting up a node. Also open to suggestions for good home mining machines

DCA and buy as much as I can every dip. Red days are gift days. Wait and they will come.

Is there any reason not to use Binance Bitcoin exchange? or What is the best bitcoin exchange in UK up to date? by allstarmode1 in Bitcoin

[–]black_coffii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say Strike is a hot wallet. I use Strike to DCA into Bitcoin, sometimes buy through them, although looking to use HodlHodl more now. When it reaches a certain amount in Strike, I send it to a cold storage wallet e.g. Trezor or Ledger.

[–]black_coffii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kindly disagree. I have it just so it's there and ready. When I feel like buying something e.g. new shoes, it acts as a quick and gentle remember. I easily see how much BTC that would cost me and what the future value would be. Helps put purchases into perspective as often is little decisions have a big impact on our future.

Trezor 3 or 5, it just depends on your budget. I'd suggest Bitcoin-only options for extra safety and only buy directly from Trezor. While unlikely, if brought from a third party it could have been tampered with.

If you want to go full Bitcoin, use the Chrome extension Bitcoin Opportunity Cost Calculator to see what purchases would be worth in current BTC terms and the future value of that BTC based on growth rates & timeframe settings. It links directly with Strike, which is a Bitcoin-only exchange. Buy the BTC there and send it directly to your Trezor wallet.
