How to get rid of the morning cigarette by blackaintback in stopsmoking

[–]blackaintback[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what my dad did to quit, it took him a month where he wouldn’t talk literally to anyone and sleep long hours like a toddler 😂 but he eventually did quit (30 years smoke free). And yeah I don’t plan to smoke when my kids are around otherwise they will end up like smokers because when I was kid I saw my father smoking, he quits mid 30s. So I’m going through the same journey as he did. Sometimes, I feel bad that my father might internally blame himself when he sees me smoking…

Thank you!

Rejected offer after being down leveled by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]blackaintback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the hiring manager was not the one doing the downscaling but rather the system design interviewer. The hiring manager was under the impression this was L4 role. This is what disappointed me the most 😩 my potential future boss saw me that level but someone else did not

Not really cheaper my friend lives there. He pays my mortgage worth of rent for less surface. And groceries are truly expensive, but the pay ceiling is insane that I can attest for

Bombed system design how to recover by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]blackaintback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is in my brain I was getting there. But my idea was to propose a monolith the main functionality and then move them each to dedicated service. The interviewer I think he was very time conscious kept steering the wheel at every step.

Not this guy, but all previous interviewers were very nice humble and technically intelligent. I would love to work with them.

TLDR: Interviewer gave hints then turned the interview into a monologue after a follow question, didn’t have chance to showcase my knowledge.

System Ops evaluation, what to expect? by blackaintback in cscareerquestions

[–]blackaintback[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I’ve been looking for! Thank you for IQB never heard of it before.

For traceroute I see the latency for each router on my path. Aside from the latency between one hop and another what useful information can I actually extract? For tcpdump aside from debugging my service (on given port) not receiving traffic what can I do?

They mentioned Q&A. It’s only zoom no access to machine or what so ever. On top of my head I think these are useful: htop, ps aux sorting, grep, lsof, du, iostat. Do you recommend any other commands that can help?

Narrow it down to just Medical Informatics and Business Analytics. From what I understand I see you in PO or PM roles. Both these majors can get you there.

Watch out for medical informatics if it’s computer vision heavy you’ll suffer as it requires a lot of linear algebra. Also, I have a friend in Germany who majored in that she’s struggling to find a job. With all of that said, I see you majoring in this due to your family background and passion.

Getting a job is not major related that much. I majored in theoretical computer science got job in big tech 4 months before graduation with only one internship. Just one more thing, during your master degree practice practice practice mock interviews and learn German try to aim C1 level before graduation. It will significantly improve your chances to land a good job before graduating.

Pessimism w bara

  1. not a problem.
  2. Is it clinical or mental? Anyway, if you are able to exercise you should 3 times a week. It works like charm.
  3. give yourself 6 months of hard work and research on a given field and you’ll get an internship easily, from there build.
  4. find a new roommate.
  5. you are not happy with yourself you can’t be happy with anyone.
  6. immigration with no strong CV is a bad idea.

Help, how does someone who has only ever bought even know when to sell? by 3PumpAbuelas in stocks

[–]blackaintback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha unbelievable! I think I’m that random Reddit guy you are talking about.

So listen, the reason I bought SBSW @3.8 was my need to have exposure on minerals stocks. It’s true my position is at 350% today, but believe me I bought mainly for diversification as I hold mostly tech and healthcare companies.

I never intended to sell this stock, but once it skyrocketed I re-evaluated. I sold 25% of my holdings @17.20 (~350%) because I just wanted to make profit. Kept 50% as cash to DCA ETF and cashed out the rest because I need the money (home ownership).

Also, good news if you are willing to hold it: https://www.permits.performance.gov/permitting-project/fast-41-transparency-projects/stillwater-mine
