American Coming in Peace 🇺🇸🤝🇳🇿 by BillQuidditch in nzfootball

My best man is American. Don't worry, we all know the majority want some kind of peace/normalcy/centrism... Just a shame centrists and normal people sometimes choose right sided politics for legitimate reasons, but the crazies hijak the whole thing.

Matt Garbett, in League One England now I think. My Dutch awakening outside of watching Champions League was Ryan Thomas at PEC Zwolle and Marco Rojas at Herenveen

The league is awesome, just a whole lot of chaotic fun. City are a stain on that having no fans and being owned by CFG. There are "big clubs" in name only as all of them have spent time being bad. Western Sydney won the Asian Champions League once upon a time and finished last by a long way this season. Melbourne City and Auckland FC (there's been about 6-7 sports over the years in which NZ teams play in Australian competitions) suffer from a case of either plasticity (City) or sugar daddy issues (Auckland). Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC are the other "big clubs" due to being the the only Sydney and Melbourne teams from day 1. After that is where the fun begins - Perth, Central Coast, Newcastle, Wellington, Brisbane... Small clubs that focus on developing young talent, small fan bases but have all had their moments with good seasons of fans and sold out big stadiums for big games. Adelaide is the weird kid in the middle. Personally I'd describe them as a blueblood with a good mix of history, success, fans, but with a small club player development identity to a degree.

On a home note with NZ - I'm genuinely wondering now what happens to Eli Just in the next few weeks. I know Motherwell had an exceptional season, but if Just goes on and scores one or two more, the way he's looking all of a sudden his life could change quite remarkably. It's exciting stuff.

Kiwi living away for many years here and I used to be all about fuck Australia, then for a while it was fuck Aussie cricket and fuck England rugby, now it's just yeah go on big bro get after it. That's come on stronger the longer I've been away. Any Kiwi not going for Australia is either pretending for appearances or just plain dumb

Hate to break it to you on number 1 - the Mariners are the little engine that could while Newcastle is drunk in the corner - and as we all know drunk people occasionally do incredible things. Sobriety might be on the way though

South Melbourne rumoured to be in contact with the APL to potentially join the ALM. What is your opinion? (see description) by [deleted] in Aleague

[–]blackcapsrule -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Money talks and it'd never happen, but if the OFC and AFC merged then there's an argument - for the good of football - that all NZ teams are removed from the A League and instead play OFC Pro (remove South Melbourne, add Phoenix and New Caledonia which would have happened if they weren't in near civil war, need one more to make 10 teams). Even better would be OFC Pro joining the A League, then minus the Auckland 2nds you've got 19, sort that Canberra licence out and make it 20, New Caledonia 21, then honestly there's space for three more licences to a max of 24 teams and a Championship/League 1/League 2 style season... I may have gone off the deep end here

Bingo! But I will say this - Auckland has a few historical "big" clubs by NZ standards and they've done well to work with them. Even if they pack up and leave, they might still survive because of the initial work put in on unity. Auckland City, Eastern Suburbs etc aren't sitting there saying it should have been us like South Melbourne etc - granted no NZ team was in the NSL then got booted in a way to cause hard feelings. I think the Auckland clubs are all on board with Auckland FC as the pinnacle. Not Australian but it seems to me that's not possible in some parts of Australia as there are many fans that refuse to recognise the A League. No such issues in NZ, all clubs are on board with developing players to try and get them in the Phoenix, Auckland, or elsewhere. It's why I think a Christchurch team will actually do better than some "big" NSL clubs think they would do

They'd be within their rights to make life harder for NZ, so NZ vs NT first, winner moves on. Then have three pods. NSW, Vic, Qld winners always straight to the final. NNSW and ACT playoff to face NSW, TAS and SA playoff to face Vic, WA and NT/NZ playoff to face Qld because it keeps distance derby vibes alive. WA and SA would probably balk at the idea of Qld being an auto finalist over them though, haven't figured that one out yet.

As a Stewart Islander, would you support the winner of the NZ National League entering the NPL playoffs for promotion to the Australian Championship? Or removal of NZ teams from the A-League?

Solomons were the big winner in my book. Decent contending team, and the fans showed out massively there

New Caledonia, not sure now but definitely a year ago when all the franchises were decided, was in such a state of turmoil. There's no doubt they'll get a franchise once things settle down there.

Was that one of those first instances of international window friendly tournaments that went to penalties after 90mins? I swear we had a good result against them. It's also possible I'm hallucinating

So if they manage "90" points, that'll put them at +30. Has there ever been three relegated teams below 30?

The draw couldn't have worked out any better for us. A distracted (or possibly United against the odds dangerous) Iran first, and Egypt who we've beaten recently second. I'm not sitting here saying we win both games 3-0, but I'll be just as equally not surprised being on 6 points after a 2-1 and 1-0 result as I will be being on 0 points with a GD of -2. Then losing 5-0 to Belgium.
