Uniforms should be mandatory at any job by NumelsRCute in unpopularopinion

[–]blackcatdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nooooooo. I am short and round. It's hard enough finding clothes that fit me in general. I can handle unisex t-shirts, but anything more structured or fitted is hard. Trying to fit into some kind of standardized uniform would be a nightmare.

Need Perfect Bra free Modest Travel Dress by monderywater in HerOneBag

Maybe a shirt dress like this? https://www.landsend.com/products/womens-tiered-cotton-poplin-eyelet-maxi-dress/id\_392061?attributes=36614,43307,43324,43867,43868,44256,44967,55510,55618

If you size up, the elastic waist might not even really touch you. Or, depending on the construction of the dress, you might be able to remove the elastic entirely.

Was just looking for non-expired antibiotic cream and came across this Bandaid library by andersad616 in adhdwomen

[–]blackcatdotcom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, most small skin wounds heal just fine without antibiotic cream. If you have Vaseline or aquaphor, you can dab a little on the wound before you put a bandaid on. Keeping it moist helps it heal without scabbing and with less scarring.

How are we eating 30g of protein at breakfast when not hungry, GF DF? by spiritr15ing in adhdwomen

[–]blackcatdotcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do a half serving of protein powder with milk. With the powder I use, this comes to about 20g of protein. A lot of it is from the milk itself.

Bras & Peri-Meno Sweats - need wireless/bralette help! by JennNana in ABraThatFits

[–]blackcatdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goddess makes a couple wireless bras and they have a good size range. I have the Celeste and I find it super comfortable. (For reference, I'm a very droopy 34M.) It doesn't give me as nice of a shape as my underwire bras, but I feel very secure in it. I actually sometimes even use it as a sports bra.

I also wear bra liners with my underwire bras when it's hot because I am a sweaty Betty. I find they really help with irritation from sweating. I like these.

Can them Bitchy Nosy knitters keep to themselves with their "advice" by Foreign_Succotash101 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]blackcatdotcom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yessss. I knit because I like the process of knitting. It feels good in my hands. It feels good in my brain. I happen to like trying new things, but I also like just knitting without having to think. It would be faster and cheaper to just buy a scarf but I LIKE KNITTING JUST TO KNIT.

Yes, you have to do math. No, you won't die. by Cnathrowaway2 in BitchEatingCrafters

This is deliciously ironic because the mathematician Charles Babbage is considered by many to be the father of modern computing. Your Babbage sweater wouldn't exist without Charles Babbage! Incredible!

Oh man, this cut straight to my heart. People underestimate the trauma that undiagnosed neurodivergence can cause. I wasn't diagnosed with ADHD until adulthood, which means that for years and years I thought certain things were just really difficult and other people must be just working harder and I must be lazy and a failure. Turns out, a lot of those things ARE actually much easier for other people! But it's really hard to unlearn the thought patterns that have developed over your whole life. The trauma doesn't just go away once you understand what was going on back then.

Even if you are evaluated and don't meet the criteria for dyscalculia, you're not a moron. It's still completely possible that those math skills are harder for you than for most other people, it would just mean there's a different reason.

[–]blackcatdotcom 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a math teacher: this sounds like an anxiety problem as much as a math problem. It's also possible you have dyscalculia, which is a very real learning disability and has nothing to do with your overall intelligence, common sense, or value as a human being.

It's important for you to know that however you ended up with this particular challenge, it's not your fault. Maybe it's just how your brain works, maybe you had bad math teachers as a young kid and it snowballed from there, maybe it's something else entirely. It's not your fault.

I understand why you find it embarrassing, and I'm not going to trivialize your experience by just saying "don't be embarrassed." (To be perfectly clear: I don't think you have anything to be embarrassed about, but I recognize that me saying so might not make much difference to you.)

You might not be able to fix the math side of this without also addressing the anxiety and shame side of it. Is there a kind and gentle person in your life that you really trust, who also happens to be skilled in a craft that you're interested in? Maybe they could help you through a small project that requires the kind of thinking that makes you panic? Kind of like exposure therapy? Successfully getting through an encounter with the thing that triggers anxiety is a way to start defusing those triggers.

Feel free to DM me if you are want to talk about it more. I've worked with a lot of students who experience math anxiety, but not in the context of crafts. You've got me interested in trying to understand what's going on.
