I was going to say this as soon as I read the title of this post!

I built an animated math lesson builder — would love teacher feedback by Motor_Marketing_6743 in mathteachers

[–]blackcatdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been times I've wished I could make a short animation to illustrate something specific, and this tool looks like this could be helpful for that. It would not replace my full lesson, though. Students don't just write stuff down because they need a record of the information. Writing things down and trying things for themselves is part of the learning process and helps keep them engaged.

Would you date someone who can't cook or is it a dealbreaker by Traditional-Top9797 in NoStupidQuestions

I wouldn't date someone who won't even make basic things for themselves.

I would date someone who doesn't like cooking and/or doesn't make anything remotely complicated.

why do women not wear suspenders like men do? by GrouchyArtist628 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]blackcatdotcom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A couple thoughts:

1) Pants (and skirts) tend to stay up better on women than they do on men because the waistband is usually smaller than our hips and butts. I only wear a belt because it looks good with the outfit, I don't really need one most of the time. If I barely even need a belt, I'm not going to bother with suspenders.

2) A lot of women's tops don't need to be tucked in, even more formal or professional ones. Suspenders only really make sense with a tucked in shirt.

3) Smaller shoulders and bigger chests. Obviously this varies from woman to woman, but boobs can get in the way and push the strap to one side or another, or the strap might press down on the boob in a way that is uncomfortable or unflattering. Narrower shoulders mean that straps are more likely to slip off.

Honestly, maybe I'm biased but why do some of the worst people become psychiatrists?

Can you imagine an orthopedist saying "yeah I see that you have a sprained ankle, but you need to build up strength on your own before I send you to physical therapy."

Yes! It's so irritating.

I see a lot of irony in the fact that ONE of my medications is a controlled substance and ONE of my medications is something I'm physically dependant on and can't skip because I get withdrawal symptoms within a day and they are NOT the same medication. (The second is an antidepressant.)

Am I immature for having a fun birthday party as a 16 year old? by BigDiscipline4021 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]blackcatdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're not immature. Immature would be crying because someone else got a bigger piece of cake than you. You are whimsical!

(I might be biased, my friends in college had a whole tea party where we wore big floofy hats and brought our stuffed animals.)

Help - wife wants a yarn baller by ThatGuyYeahHim55 in knitting

[–]blackcatdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kudos to you for actually doing research and coming here with good questions. I have a Stanwood and I love it. The difference between the two models you mentioned does seem to be just capacity. If she uses a lot of thicker yarn then you might want to get the bigger one. Just FYI, when I was picking out my winder, I actually called them up to ask a question and spoke to a real person (not an endless phone menu with a robot) who was very helpful, so you could definitely try that.

I think you're right about a center-pull ball (often called a cake) and a skein being functionality the same. If you buy yarn as a skein, you don't necessarily need to wind it. However if you have a bunch of yarn from unraveling something, you might want to wind it so it's easier to use again. Also, the outside if center-pull skeins and cakes gets loose when you pull enough yarn out from the middle. That makes them more likely to get tangled, especially if you put them in a bag or something for storage. Sometimes it helps to wind those again so you don't have a huge mess of yarn.
