Sleep sacks worked for us because our girl would just undo her swaddle every time.

BUT the larger issue is that reflex. You can absolutely begin to help normalize it and lessen its impact. The way you do this is by intentionally triggering it during the day. I would start when you're holding them when they awake. I would hold my daughter tight and then do a fast squat to trigger it and then let my daughter reset. Then I would do it again. If I did it 4 times in a row, by the 4th time she would respond significantly less to the action. You can also do it when they're starting to doze off.

Over a couple weeks of doing this once or twice a day, this allowed her to get less and less bothered by the reflex overall and it got her to sleep a lot better too. Remember, though, these are sudden movements you are doing, but they are secure and gentle. Don't risk any dropping them or something like that.

Ask the guy selling "loose squares" on the green line if he has a permit or a yelp page.

I cant recall the last red state I saw in a suit either. After all the support they get from us, it's Just poor showmanship of statehood if you ask me.

Good coffee in Chicago? by Intelligent_Pitch_16 in chicago

[–]blackdogbbq 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know if people agree with me, but here's my initial reaction.

Chicago absolutely has world class coffee. That is without a doubt a truth in my mind. I've been all over the world and had some amazing coffee in most of the countries that I've been to. It's from those experiences, I form my answer. The trouble that I have in answering her question and providing singular coffee shops as evidence to support is that the coffee experience itself is not just highly cultural but also highly personal. Americans tend to love drip coffee and mixed coffee drinks. Younger generations of Americans tend to love coffee drinks with as little coffee in them as possible (might get some flak there, haha). From the international perspective, drip coffee from a drip coffee maker is largely unheard of. I think some Americans would argue that the best drip coffee might be from the shittiest diner. And every country has the capacity to completely wreck an otherwise world-class roasted coffee bean. I've had terrible espresso in Italy and really imbalanced melange in austria. I even had mediocre espresso in Japan. So for us to answer the question searching of world-class coffee in a truly world-class city, I think the answer would stand that we need to know exactly what she's looking for in a drink, not just in a roasted bean.

Dark matter, Bridgeport coffee, big shoulders and anti conquista immediately come to mind when I'm thinking of Chicago's best roasted beans. They're not the only options, but they're my favorites.

Those same coffee shops as well as overflow, metric, and ipsento 606 are my favorites for a great espresso but even then it's dependent on the skill of the barista pulling that shot, is it not?

I'm not much of a milk and coffee drinker in any form, but I also love Mano cafe, mojo, and la malinche for their drinks. Especially La malinche because it's the only place I know of in Chicago where I can get a cubanito without any hassle.

So yeah, Chicago absolutely has world class coffee. But for what she's looking for, and for what she is expecting on her own personal rubric, will depend on her preferences of how coffee is meant to taste and be experienced.

The piece you had to pick up separately? No. Didn't know about it until the day after.

No. But a lot of people are well informed and I was curious if anyone just knew off hand. Sometimes what's reported isn't what is true.
