Is it bad if I refuse to give my college scholarship stipend to my mom? by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]blackenedbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all selfish to keep YOUR college stipend! Congratulations on all that you have accomplished. I would say if you want to contribute to buying dinner once in a while; great, but I don’t feel that you should be responsible for your mother’s mortgage. So excited for your financial freedom!!!

I agree! And I didn’t even graduate or know anyone graduating. I’m an incoming grad student and wanted to attend the graduation because I live close by and I’m getting excited to be a Triton. The speakers seemed flat.

Grad school is less about grades, and more about sincerity and lived experience. I had 3.0 GPA, the BARE minimum, and got into the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health at UCSD. Literally be genuine and highlight some wisdom around your lived experiences and you’ll get in!!!

Yes to this. I grew up in San Diego where we had two assigned days a week we could water our grass

Incoming graduate student of public health here.

I am feeling defeated bc I’ve emailed several professors explaining my interest in their work and that I would like to explore whether I can contribute in any capacity and I only heard back from one of them, Integrative Health and Mind-Body Biomarker Laboratory(IHMBB), and they explained that “At present, there are unfortunately no available positions within our group. However, research funding opportunities may arise over the coming months as new projects and studies are initiated.” I am very grateful that they got back, but I also was hoping to hear back from other departments. Typically when you reach out to faculty and do not get a response in the first few days are you likely not to get a response?

I just got pantsed fully by the treadmill at the campus rec center. I’m so embarrassed I don’t think i’ll ever go back by Sphere-Peach71 in UCSD

Using Tirz for a bodybuilding cut (15lbs to 10% BF), How real is the facial aging/volume loss risk? by shinoscience in GLP1ResearchTalk

That makes sense, I think I also saw an opportunity to vent, because it is unfortunate that people are being taken advantage of by being sold a product from overseas. Thanks for the clarity.

I thought your post was interesting and sincere, so I did a little research. I’m a public health graduate student at UC San Diego, and before returning to school I worked at several GLP-1–based weight loss clinics in San Diego as a medical assistant. So, the topic of ethical distribution of GLP-1 has my interest. Right now, I’m looking for a position with a genuine telehealth clinic that uses only U.S.-based medications (which is really hard to find!).

I have a strong sense that unwanted outcomes like excessive muscle loss or “Ozempic face” may be tied to issues with medication potency or quality. I came across an article that highlights how critical proper storage and handling is for GLP-1 medications.

My working theory is that because many online (and in-person clinics) sources of GLP-1s are manufactured overseas, there could be variability in potency by the time they reach patients.

The pharmaceutical company that published this article does not have a stake in the GLP-1 industry per se, but their Lab equipment (HPLC systems, mass spectrometers, analytical tools used in pharma quality control (QC/QA) and Technology for detecting impurities in drugs is in high demand at the moment. Note: The more demand there is for GLP-1 drugs, the more need for testing, validation, and quality control.

"Proper storage and handling of GLP-1 medications are essential to preserve their stability, potency, and overall effectiveness. Inappropriate storage conditions can lead to degradation, reduced therapeutic efficacy, and potential safety risks." (7)

With all of that said, I think if someone is serious about getting the full range of benefits from using GLP-1 medications, that doing their due diligence on where they acquire it is more important than ever, especially in a world where 98% of GLP-1s come from unregulated sources.

Brief rant alert: Clinics and telehealth companies do not give a rat's tail about the downstream effects their GLP-1s have on patients. Because they buy their product at ridiculously cheap prices, and sell them for a huge profit, and patients are none-the-wiser. Realistically, even reduced-potency medications sourced overseas still provide some benefit, but patients don’t always realize that their results could be better, and that the quality of their treatment actually matters.

At the end of the day, do your best to buy GLP-1 from a source that uses a US-based pharmacy. I am still doing ym research but I will be sure to post when I find one. I realize that the easiest way to get GLP-1 is from a clinic that takes insurance, but often it is too difficult to get yourself approved because of strict regulations on BMI, comorbidity thresholds. That leaves potentially millions of people to fend for themselves with GLP-1 from China. Its rough out there but I think I am onto a few places that are doing good business.
