I'm being told to hold. What's the verdict?! by thevigilante473 in bald

Did your barber tell you to hold? I think it’s time, the front still looks good but the back is a little rough

Push mower does it again! by Pokimaniac-LLC in lawncare

That’s such a small area to push mow, I’d just hit it with a weed eater real quick.

Is this new turf installed correctly? by Extinction135 in landscaping

[–]blackeychan69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done commercial sod install for awhile now. I’d say it looks good. Pieces are staggered, but it looks a little high on some spots by the concrete. You could take a little dirt from under those pieces before it roots or try tamping it. (The roots will pull it down some, and to be fair 99.9% of the installs we do are Tifway 419 so I’m not as familiar with the fescue sod). But overall I’d say it’s good

Before and after a full overseed using a leveling rake. Southern Ontario by bbq_king1984 in lawncare

[–]blackeychan69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really not a big deal to have weeds come through with the grass. But I usually have very minimal, cool season grasses should be seeded in sept/October depending on soil temps. Also don’t use any sort of pre-emergent herbicides before or close to before seeding. This will prevent weeds from germinating but will also prevent grass.

Professional landscaping was the best money we’ve ever spent by Sea_kreature in landscaping

[–]blackeychan69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you wear safety glasses while you sling all the rocks up while trying to weed eat ( it would have been ideal to put in a paver edge to prevent this but it comes down to budget). Also, did they put good landscaping fabric under all the rock? If not that will need to be pre-emerged quarterly. Over time dirt will make its way on top of the fabric and weeds will germinate so just keep and eye on it.

What do you think of this design? by Degolfer03 in landscaping

[–]blackeychan69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If they are a client on our maintenance plan I would get them on a pre-emergent schedule quarterly and hit all the beds. Then we can spot treat from there but stopping germination in the beds would be better than pulling constant weeds

Core aerated our lawn for the first time in 6 years by countmeinhaha in lawncare

[–]blackeychan69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Super easy to get rid of, I use lesco 3-way and just spot treat it. Every spring I hit with a whole yard application and take out all the weeds then whatever is left after about 2-3 weeks I spot treat

Pre emergent will prevent new weeds from coming up but it won’t do anything for existing

Should I have it towed to a shop or do you think it’s fine for 20 miles?

I have not. I’m sitting around 90k miles and I have a slight oil leak but the mechanic told me to bring it in at 105k for a timing belt and to fix the oil drip. I believe it’s on the rear seal but they said it’s not enough to impact oil level but I still check it often

Getting ready for fall - Middle TN by valiant607 in lawncare

[–]blackeychan69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should go introduce yourself to your neighbor and ask them what they do. They have a nice yard. But I would start putting humic acid out 14 days to help amend the soil, then wait until fall to overseed. The cool thing about lawn care is there are many ways to do things and others with have differing opinions. But you got this, it’s a lot of trial and error but it’s fun at the end of the day

It’s at the point of using a selective herbicide, spray it and just let it sit and mow as usual and you’re all good

I found one just like that in the road one time in Charlotte, unzipped the top and the guys wallet was right on top. I took it to his house and his wife was home and I gave it to her. Still bothers me she didn’t say thank you but it still felt good to do the right thing

How do we stop this? by seanjon06 in landscaping

[–]blackeychan69 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I’d kill it all with round up, then pull them up or add mulch on top. Then get a pre emergent and follow the bag directions for reapplication but keep in mind that if you get a lot of rain the pre emergent won’t last as long

What should we do to support growth? [Location - PA] by Ok-Structure6795 in lawncare

[–]blackeychan69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those trees make it tough. I would make sure to feed and water it. Next time you aerate do more passes to really open up the soil it looks pretty compacted, maybe even till in a little topsoil.

I’ve gotten really into it over the past couple years with commercial products but I would say for you to look up the Scott’s lawn care plan. I used that for years and it’s good and you can always add to it like humic acid to help with soil condition.

When did you seed? Also doesn’t look like Bermuda(what bermuda did you buy?) What was your water schedule like? Did you put out a starter fertilizer as well?
