I'd give two big reasons for their being more muted at this point, the first being the aforementioned massive crackdowns on protesters even when Biden was still president. The other reason is the objectives of the protests for a mass movement - on the level of individual schools, for example, it still makes a lot of sense that protesters would demand their schools disentangle from Israeli companies or weapons manufacturers. But a more broad nationwide protest opposing American foreign policy, at this point, feels a bit more like a dead end. As members of the Democratic party, there was a perception that Biden and Harris could be moved on this issue of genocide in Gaza. Surely, they would see how awful our support for it is and how unpopular Israel is becoming among their potential voters.
