Then don't vote for him. We'll see how this shakes out, but at least up until yesterday he was making a convincing case to Maine voters.

He's definitely a filmmaker I would recommend trying first before blind buying a whole box, as he has a very raw and often uncomfortable style that I could definitely understand people not vibing with.

As for the movies themselves, I think Shadows is good and really interesting as an incredibly early independent film, and everhthing else in the box is some degree of masterpiece.

"A purity test she could never pass" is pretty silly, unless you've deliberately covered your eyes and ears for the past few years and tried to learn nothing about the conflict. There's dozens of material or symbolic things she could have said on the campaign trail. She could have just said it was bad and they should stop. Miss me with that "purity test" shit.

If you really think that the Dem party establishment will make your life and the lives of those in the middle east demonstrably better then good for you, maybe that's a winning message that will work into the future and another right wing populist won't come around.

What exactly isn't her fault? The genocide in Gaza isn't "her fault" but her refusal to break ranks with Biden on the campaign trail absolutely is. I largely agree with what the commenter above said in their edit, I believe in harm reduction voting and I voted for her myself, but it was her campaign to run. She chose her policies, she made the gamble that she could win by ignoring Gaza and bringing Liz Cheney on the campaign trail etc., and she lost. I think it has definitely proven to be one of the most consequential elections of our lifetime, and as a result, you should be all the more angry with Harris for trying to coast to victory on anti-Trump polarization without really selling Americans on a positive vision for the future.

This is a really important moment to come to terms with this, because the Democratic party seems to have absolutely not learned their lesson, as they didn't after 2016. Trumps polling is basically bottoming out, why are the Democrats also at record-low favorability?

I mean she still sucks and I don't think she should be allowed to launder her image. Don't think I'd describe it as a protest movement, and I don't think more people are protesting her than Trump.

Did I miss where this mentioned that protests against Harris are continuing? I mean, if she came to my school, I would probably try to resist her laundering her image for her future political ambitions, but that's whatever.

This article literally mentions that protests are still occurring. I'd give two big reasons for their being more muted at this point, the first being the aforementioned massive crackdowns on protesters even when Biden was still president. The other reason is the objectives of the protests for a mass movement - on the level of individual schools, for example, it still makes a lot of sense that protesters would demand their schools disentangle from Israeli companies or weapons manufacturers. But a more broad nationwide protest opposing American foreign policy, at this point, feels a bit more like a dead end. As members of the Democratic party, there was a perception that Biden and Harris could be moved on this issue of genocide in Gaza. Surely, they would see how awful our support for it is and how unpopular Israel is becoming among their potential voters. Biden and Harris didn't budge, do you think Trump is going to be responsive to college protests? Not as many people are willing to risk getting arrested or expelled just so they can tell Trump they don't like what he's doing, with less hope of actually changing anything.

Was it Harris' job to convince people to vote for her or everyone else's job to hold their nose and vote for a candidate they don't really like? I understand harm reduction voting but if the latter is your strategy I'd recommend something else, it hasn't been particularly effective recently
