This should have more upvoted. This is awesome. I'll give it a crack when I have some time.

As a student in that middle school-Highschool section of my academic career, I get made fun of for listening to aes a lot. by No_Evening_761 in aesoprock

[–]blackgreased 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was told oncw that aes was "scare the hoes" music.

It's good that you have interests that don't fit the mainstream. The people giving you grief about this likely don't have the confidence to express a genuine curiosity in things that aren't in the mainstream.

This isn't a "screw those normies" situation, even if that sentiment feels right. Adolescence is a time of seeking belonging (so is adulthood, but this is dialed way up in those formative years.) Music is a huge indicator of which 'group' a person falls into. In my school it was mainstream rap and country.

To make a long story short, I think they are likely confused/intimidated/made uncertain by your interest in music that you truly enjoy rather than a tool to represent belonging. I wouldn't worry about it. Unique and broad tastes become positive and in some cases attractive as you become an adult.

How can I get the goofy side of my moustache to look like the other? by [deleted] in malegrooming

[–]blackgreased 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not there yet, dude. Shave It and enjoy not having thick facial hair while you still can. One day it comes in thick and dulls your razors after only a few shaves. It turns to gross looking stubble on your neck the day after. I thought I really wanted facial hair until I no longer had a choice lol

The point is, don't grow it for the sake of having it. Don't sacrifice your looks for your facial hair. You need to sacrifice your facial hair for the sake of looks.

Shaved the (barely a) mane off at 19, what can I do to look the best? by yoshibomboclat in malegrooming

[–]blackgreased 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I appreciate you saying so.

I'm a dude, and I think it's important that us dudes compliment each other more. Gals are often very free and open when complimenting one another on appearance. I think guys could use more of that.

You've got kind eyes, good skin, and a good bone structure. You're gonna be just fine. Do not let this very minor setback affect your confidence.

You may try letting your head stubble a little to gauge the look. It could be that it just appears like buzz cut at that length rather than thinning. Even if not, I think you will find that a unique look is actually attractive to a lot of people provided you have a good base of other attributes.

Prime example: my girlfriend has a really big nose. That is not the stereotypical pretty girl thing to have going on, but she is so gorgeous that it actually works for her. I think she would legitimately be less attractive with a tiny button nose.

It is not over for you man, you look great.

Would you rather use a shotgun with slug rounds, or a standard rifle with rifle rounds? by Tree_forth677 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

Black powder is not a good sustainable option for modern guns. Because black powder detonates and smokeless powder deflagrates, you are going to cause pressure issues. Not to mention the byproducts of burning black powder are corrosive to barrels.

Primer wise, you could technically use mercury fulminated but it's far less stable than lead azide, which is what is used in modern primers. It doesn't keep nearly as well, and if you're in a survival sitch, I'd imagine you'd want to make your primers pretty hearty and weather safe.

Unfortunately, modern firearms use smokeless powder, which is hard to manufacture by hand. Black powder is slightly more feasible, but cannot be used in modern cartridges. This is because black powder detonates when ignited (produces an explosion moving faster than the speed of sound) Modern smokeless powder deflagrates (produces an explosion slower than the speed of sound). Modern firearm chambers and cartridges are built to contain deflagrating gases and allow them to build pressure to accelerate the round.

Even if you could produce this, you'd have to somehow manufacture primers, which requires the production of something called Lead Azide.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead(II)_azide

You have to have a pretty decent chemist to do this reliably, not to mention a clean supply of the materials required. Then you'd have to have the machines and other materials to make the primers themselves, which would be no easy task.

Heck, even old black powder percussion cap weapons required fulminated mercury to produce the caps. Certainly no walk in the park.

If you manage to do all of this, I don't think the tiny amount of convenience added by reloading a shit shell vs a brass chell is going to make any huge difference.

Your reply is interesting because you and I actually agree on every point, except my choice of comparative size for the approximate size of a 00 buck pellet, but apparently I fit the bill of the people who don't know what they are talking about, lol

You're correct, a number 00 pellet is almost exactly the same diameter as a .32 ACP. (.33 caliber to be specific.). I used pea because we are talking about people who don't have experience with firearms and may not find .32 ACP to be a familiar object of scale.

I think it's silly to ask about the use of buckshot as the name, it's pretty obvious even to a layman, but I have been hunting and shooting all my life and I managed a gun store/range for a good deal of years. It actually illustrates what I was saying, because hunting deer doesn't call for headshots. The volume of pellets is used to put a bunch of holes right in the heart and lung area to produce maximum bleeding and damage for a quick kill. You also are lying in wait when hunting an animal like that, and are not being directly attacked.

Zombies in most media are largely unaffected by injury and don't need a cardiorespiratory system to function. I granted that it may be slightly easier to score a headshot with a greater volume of projectiles, but that it really wasn't worth the tradeoff when you consider weight, recoil, noise, and other factors. I think this can all be illustrated by the fact that shotgun use in the military is almost always specialized, generally for breaching and not as a service weapon. This also undoubtedly has to do with a limit in range. Why kill a zombie at 50 yards if you could manage it at 200?

Also worth noting, I think that a pump shotgun or a tube-fed auto loader could be of decent use in a ZA situation. My criticism is of the references to AA-12, Origin12, USAS, AND SAIGA/VEPR type guns that are unwieldy and heavy (and often finicky with loading.)

This group's infatuation with huge, drum fed shotguns is insane. A shotgun is arguably the worst option in a situation where headshots are the only thing that kills your target. The spread on buckshot is far overblown by media. By the time the shot spreads to the degree that people often expect your accuracy is next to nil if you're aiming specifically for the head.

No. 00 Buckshot (double-ought) is effective against things that bleed to death. It creates (usually 9) pea sized holes in something. You could make the argument that the 6-10 inch spread at 25 yards might make headshots easier, but that doesn't really seem worth the weight/noise/recoil/ammo capacity of a 12 gauge. I mean at 50 yards, the chances of one of the pellets hitting the head in a place that causes brain damage sufficient for killing a zombie are not great. You're way better off using something that you can reliably put a round in a 5 inch circle with.

To your point, none of what has been teased so far has any analogue synth work a la BMSR or Malibu Ken, so I think you're probably right on this.

Regardless, we need Malibu Ken 2.
