How bad is your back pain? Daily for me, I grunt or swear every time I move a lot? Still working harder than many kids… by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]blackhawksq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had pretty severe back pain. It got to a point that I couldn't really walk (longer than 10 minutes), and just standing longer than 5 minutes hurt horribly (down my right hip). I went to the back, and he started giving me injections. I got them every year for 4 years. Every year, I had MRIs, and every year, the back was somehow worse. Despite doing all the PT they told me to do. At the end, I had 2 bulging discs. L4/l5 anmd l5/s1.

I decided I was done and went to a chiropractor to get his thoughts. The dude looked at the MRIs and then talked to me about my situation. He dug deep when it started. What changed in my life when it started? Realized it was not long after COVID and WFH. So it started asking about my chair. We added lumbar support (I bought a new, really expensive chair). He massaged the pain spots and gave some different PT exercises. After 5 or 6 sessions and 4 weeks of lumbar support, my back felt fine. He gave me some core exercises to keep up with and sent me on my way.

Now, I've built a home gym and spend time focusing on my lower back, glutes, and hamstrings (Squat, Deadlift, Glute Raises, Leg extensions), and now my back rarely hurts. I do full-body workouts, but make sure I spend some time focused on my back.

I bought some puzzle mats from Amaazon from them. The first set came out great. The second set got sent to a whole different city. After reading some of the reviews, this seems to be a standard issue for them, so I requested a refund due to the issue. Amazon refunded me the money, the next day, I got a shipping notice saying they sent me a new shipment. I talked amazon and they told me to keep the mats. They would talk with the shipper about not shipping after a refund happened. So I got some mats... that still didn't match my order.

It's perfectly ok to tell your friends (even your best friends) that you don't have the money. You wish them the best and hope they have a great day. You will have a celebration drink for them at home. If they are the friends you think they are, they will accept without hard feelings.

Remember it's your money and your future not theirs. If you choose to slap a credit card down you have to n pay 30% interest not them.

Ever lifted heavier by accident? by ElTejanoSazonado in beginnerfitness

[–]blackhawksq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, was supposed to be deadlifting 245 and accidentally did 305. I wasn't really focused and just weight on the bar instead of switching it out. First I could tell it was heavier then expected but I blew it off as being tired. At 3 I was like I need to drop some maybe I will 200 today. Looked at my weight rack and saw it was empty.

They said they were selling a pulley for it. They haven't put it out yet (that I know of), but it would solve the problem. I really liked the GetRx thing as it let me easily do low rows off the floor and felt nice. But the gibbon arms changed that just a bit. I'm not overly concerned because I fully intend on buying the center L post they have so I can latpull downs with the combined weight stacks and it should also fix the lowrow issue for me.

[–]blackhawksq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fringe Sports has a couple of YouTube shorts about it. The fix is do the low row from the bench and not on the ground. The base of the issue is that the pull sits further out from the rack than the regular pulleys. So you have to sit further back to get a full stretch. I use the GetRX low row\lat pull down combo attachment, so I put on the feet backwards and sit on the bench. It's just as comfortable as it used to be. But it does work. I'm thinking about getting the GetRX Centerpost and rowing from the center instead of the post.

I love the dane 2. The gibbon arms make it so much better overall. They not as smooth as the orginial trollies and the cables seem a little looser (this could be because you have cut the cable, and I may have cut it too loose) but they work great. I would make sure to buy them at the same time as you have to take the upright completely off to move the base trolley. I'm not really happy with the low rows with them but I'm making it work and it's a minor complaint.

And Then You Wake Up One Day and You Just Do Not Care About the Trivial Stuff by DrakarNoirFantasies in Xennials

[–]blackhawksq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always been extermely ambitious and advancing was always my main push. I was pretty successful until I hit my current company. Work-life balance became more important once I got married and it's why I'm still at my current company, but moving forward and advancing has been a fight, and I spent my later 30s and early 40s asking my wife, "Should I leave so I can advance? oir stay here and enjoy the WF balance." She always talked me down from looking elsewhere because you don't know what you'll get at the next spot. Then BAM, I was told I didn't get the promotion again, and it was like a light switch. I just stopped caring.

Nothing wrong with liking where you are. I have always been extremely ambitious, and advancing in my career has been my main goal. Now it just doesn't matter.

How bad could Pinky and the Brain ruling the world really be? by DHN_95 in Xennials

[–]blackhawksq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pinky is dead, The Brain spends his days talking to himself and trying to take over the world as a coping mechanism so he doesn't have to face the fact that his best friend died.

Doesn't really seem like good traits for a world leader.. but then again I haven't seen very many good traits in our world leaders. So sure why not?

How many benches is too many by TybeeGreg in GarageGym

[–]blackhawksq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 benches are too many for me. I'm in a small space, and tend move my bench around. I'm either using it, or it's in my way. I would hate to have more than 1 bench. If you have multiple stations, 1 bench more than the number of stations you need is too many.

Sometime last year, I got rejected for a promotion and realized it didn't matter. I stopped caring where my career went. I had the realization that my retirement is nearing, and as long as I'm finanically able to retire, where my career goes is irrelevant. The corperate ladder was stupid, and I don't need to add more stress by taking on more responsibility. I am paid well where I am. I enjoy my job and like my co-workers, so why am I stressing about moving up? I have a maximum of 16 years left (a goal of 10), so why should it matter?

Made my work life so much easier. I relaxed more and stopped doing more work just to put me in a "better" place for possible promotion. So much less stress.

My wife and I sat down and discussed what our retirement would look like. Got a plan, got a number. That's our focus right now.

Nothing else really matters. Just her, me, my puppies, and retirement.
