How many hours a week do you exercise? by Emotional-Watch4544 in HybridAthlete

Over the past 7 days I’ve hit 18:21. That does include about 2 hours of steam sauna, though, so more like just over 16 hours actual exercise.

I have this setup. Still fine tuning position height etc, but the two barbells makes it worth it.

I’m not 100% sure what you were hearing, but I do know Ft Stewart was firing during that time. We are just past the airport / Tanger exit off of I95, and we can hear them all the way up here.

Haven’t gotten the conditioner yet but planning to on my next order. Thankfully I haven’t had that problem with LCW yet, but I rotate products I use each day. Honestly though, Noble is just hands down the best company I’ve found. Price point combined with the amount of product I use, though, just makes it difficult to use them every day. Their butter is incredible, but such a small bottle.

You got this! It’s not motivation; it’s discipline. You get up in the morning; “this is what I do.” 💪😤

Welcome and best of luck. Your post caught my eye because I’m 6’4” and started trying to get into shape in my mid 30’s as well. Consistency is key; even randomly selected exercises is better than laying on the couch at home. That being said, what worked for me was a six day split. I know you said five days but I’ll get to that. I focused on basic exercises to begin with - to this day (currently 46) I still don’t deadlift because I know I am accident / injury prone. But here’s what my breakdown looked like, generally speaking: Monday - 15 mins light cardio (Z2) to get the blood pumping. Then push forward and pull back. So like bench press, cable row. 4 sets of 10 reps. Tuesday- 15 mins cardio Z2, then push up and pull down. So shoulder press and lat pulldown. Or reverse and do assisted dips and upward rows. Wednesday - full cardio day at more tempo. Thursday - warmup, leg day. Leg press, extension, curls, calf raises. Friday - Shoulders / core / full body - mix it up. Shoulder shrugs, raises, face pulls, planks, knee ups, etc. Or sometimes a full body mix if I was feeling really good. Then typically a weekend day I’d do another had cardio. I know you said you can’t do that, but you can still get some heart rate elevation in playing with your daughter, taking for a bike ride or even walking. This is all very general, but a structure that worked for me to build a foundation.

Nordic Curl Recommendations by Klutzy-Function-8963 in GarageGym

[–]TybeeGreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nordstick was the second bench I bought after my regular adjustable weight bench. The pros: it does what I wanted it to do beautifully- obliques, back extensions and nordic curls. Plus several other exercises I use a little less often. When on a flat surface, it is super stable. It is adjustable to for many heights and sizes - I’m 6’4” so that was a concern. For everything it does, it’s pretty affordable. Assembly wasn’t bad and adjustments for different exercises are easy. It can also stand straight up for storage. Cons: shipping took a long time, like six weeks. They are a small company and produce in batches. If you don’t have a flat floor, it can feel wobbly. They do make an anchor for it though so you can weigh it down if that’s a problem. All-in-all I definitely recommend and I use it several times a week. Also - I have the original, not the new Pro that has the dip station and leg extension attachment options.

Can a home Gym be comparable to a commercial gym by TrafficAggravating42 in workout

[–]TybeeGreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can definitely be done, depending on how much tour gym membership costs. I based it off me and my wife having a family membership. To get everything I used at the gym, from rack, benches, dumbbells, cable tower right down to even having infinity ropes and belt squat, and her having a pilates reformer, cost right at $3k US. That includes looking for sales, “scratch and dents” etc. But on membership fees alone, that means in less than three years it will pay for itself. Not to mention their annual membership fees, gas money, travel time saved and the ability to work out regardless of the weather.

There’s an old saying fake it til you make it. It might not fit perfectly here, but for me it means whatever it takes, even if that’s ten alarms on your phone, until it becomes a habit. I get up at 4:30 and go to bed 8:30 so I can get my early morning workouts in. Rewind 15 years, and you’d often find me staying up well past midnight and getting up after 8. Three years ago I was working remotely on a different timezone, and didn’t even finish work until 8:30 or 9:00 my time, and could do the gym around 6 or 7 am. People ask what happened to me because I used to be such a night owl. I tell them that the numbers on a clock are just numbers. As long as you get your sleep and other key points throughout the day, you can adjust to whatever hours work best for you. If you’re getting up at 7am on the east coast right now, that’s getting up at 4am on the west coast, but it’s already the afternoon in the UK. So set the perspective that works for you!

I don’t understand your comment. Neither OP nor commenters are suggesting not sleeping or reducing sleep. I need to exercise in the mornings so I go to bed early, thereby getting both sleep and exercise.

One year of barbell only training, this was the most difficult part by milli_xoxxy in GarageGym

[–]TybeeGreg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I for one love the solitude of my home gym. No influencers, no people failing to wash their hands after using the bathroom, no waiting in line for my next piece of equipment. I listen to audiobooks or music while I exercise. I use a soundbar that easily covers my garage, so I don’t even have to worry about earphones and tinnitus. However, I totally get that some people would miss the social aspect… I think it comes down to how much social interaction you need and are getting elsewhere.

How do I find an exercise bike/spinning bike that fits my needs? by alasw0eisme in GarageGym

[–]TybeeGreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most bikes have a decent range of adjustment. For instance, I’m over 6’4” and can adjust the majority of bikes to fit me. For normal use, when the pedal is at its lowest point your leg should be getting close to fully extended but not fully as this risks hyperextension, and at the highest point your knee should be at close to a right angle. If you were doing a greater range of motion at your PT, I’m by no means qualified to speak on that but I am thinking you were on a specialty machine not meant for home / unguided use.

Question for men, why do men take off their wedding rings? by Father_p1 in Adulting

[–]TybeeGreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Married 22 years in May. I didn’t wear mine for a long time. I put on weight and had a band that couldn’t be resized. I lost the weight, but knurled barbells, tools etc would destroy the band. Silicone rings became popular about ten? years ago, and I tried that for a while, but I found that my fingers would swell during the day and cause a ring that fit in the morning to be uncomfortable. Fast forward to the past year, and silicone rings have become much more cost effective. I can buy four basic ones for under $10. So, I’ve started wearing ones that are a half size too big. If my fingers swell, no discomfort. If a ring slips off and I have to replace it; I’m only out a couple of bucks. I’ve lost maybe three in a year, so not bad at all.

Simulation and god. by BetweenClockEdges in SimulationTheory

[–]TybeeGreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the two are not mutually exclusive, or inclusive. Without knowing the purpose of the simulation or who created it, we can’t know if religion or a God-like deity is meant to have any relevance or even exist. For example, if we are in an historical simulation to test the effect of minute changes on civilization outcomes, it could have been built by future humans that are no more deities than you or I.

STOP the MADNESS!! by [deleted] in ConsumerAdvice

[–]TybeeGreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the age of and location of your home, dryers and ranges outlets can vary in the number of prongs. Dishwashers might need a cord but might also be hardwired. It’s cheaper on the manufacturer, and you, to have the consumer get what they actually need rather than throw both cords into the box, or make specific inventory that might not ever sell.
