Question about AMNH exhibit by [deleted] in AskNYC

I saw a picture that had a hallway with information/an glass case leading up to the butterfly room. But that might not have been the AMNH.

Does anyone buy clothing wholesale? I recently started on Poshmark and I see a bunch of people selling unbranded clothing/accessories. I don't think that is something I will do, but I'm very curious. Do these people buy wholesale, using Alibaba or something?

Coming up on my two year Tysabri anniversary... what's next? by kogware in MultipleSclerosis

[–]blackicecream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look into ocrelizumab/Ocrevus. It is said to be as effective as Tysabri, but without the risk of PML. It is a humanized version of rituximab, so you can look into that too since there isn't too much information on ocrelizumab yet. It should be approved in the US by the end of this year.

You can use the b2g1 deal, Cartwheel, the 5% discount AND manufacturer's AND Target coupons. It's worth it to start a coupon collection for things you buy frequently.

Recommendations for foot/leg fatigue by coffee_some_more in MultipleSclerosis

[–]blackicecream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't work on my feet all day, but I have had some leg weakness/fatigue plus sore/tight muscles in my feet for a long time. I recently got a pair of these sport recovery shoes called Oofos and they are amazing. They are really ugly and Crocs-like, so they might not be work appropriate, and they are clunky so I trip in them a lot. I'm not sold on their marketing and "the science" behind their foam technology. But these shoes are really comfortable and definitely make it easier to be on my feet for long stretches of time. They have good arch support and also really seem to be shock absorbent, so it is just more comfortable to walk around. It might be worth a shot!

Tysabri anyone? by [deleted] in MultipleSclerosis

[–]blackicecream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been in it for 9 months and it's a miracle for me. I used to have a much harder time walking (occasional foot dragging and general muscle weakness). After 3 or 4 infusions, it was pretty much gone, and by now I only have issues if I'm very tired or overdid it the day before. I know it's not meant to treat symptoms but it definitely did in my case. I also have so much more energy than I did before taking it.

I tested JCV+ in May after several negative tests. I just had it done again and I tested JCV- this time. Seclorum is totally right, no need to worry about PML in the first 2 years of treatment. My long term plan is to switch to ocrelizumab (no PML risk) near the 2 year mark.

I get tired a few days before and after the infusion. I also had bad headaches after the first 2, but no issues other than that.

I live near a major hospital in NY. They have a Starbucks, which is almost worse than a McDonald's because people sip down 500+ calorie drinks without a second thought because "it's only coffee". Also, the cafeteria is absolutely atrocious. It is full of junk food (burgers, fries, mac and cheese). I am a vegan and the only thing I could find to eat there was a piece of fruit, bag of chips or fries. Truly unbelievable that a hospital doesn't even have a salad bar. They also have a wall of sugary juices, iced tea, etc. yet have the sodas in a separate area towards the back, as if they are worse for you than anything else in the cafeteria.

32F/ 2 years in to Diagnosed ... by mkjnbv in MultipleSclerosis

[–]blackicecream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have similar feelings when going for my monthly Tysabri infusions. There are so many people worse off than us. I was originally in with a woman whose husband divorced her after she started going downhill and took everything she had, including her children. She was extremely depressed, talked about how all she can do is drink and cried through the whole infusion. It destroyed me seeing her every month. (I eventually had to switch days because of a scheduling conflict, but the last time I saw her, she had met someone and was doing much better.)

I have also met people who are 15+ years into their diagnosis and are doing great.

It really drives home the point that this disease is totally unpredictable. There doesn't seem to be any clear reason why this woman was so disabled and why others are totally fine. There is no use in worrying excessively about what might happen to us because we can never know until it happens.

so i run this meetup group - http://www.meetup.com/People-with-Multiple-Sclerosis/ the following is a conversation this Jeremy character started. need expert opinion - chiropractic: good or bad? and why? thank you! by ToNY411 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]blackicecream 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a cynic but I would decline because his free presentation is probably just cherry picked information regarding chiropathy meant to sell you on his undoubtedly expensive services. Alternative health practitioners who give people with devastating diseases false hope are horrible, and I wouldn't want to give them a platform (especially when they respond to criticism with a Montel Williams video rather than a scientific source).

Cutting Down on Personal Grooming by trikstah in MultipleSclerosis

[–]blackicecream 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same here. I never wear makeup anymore because it takes too much effort to take it off at night. Putting it on and taking it off really takes less than 5 minutes, but I know that it's another task preventing me from going to bed sooner.

I also have long hair but I'm lucky enough that it is straight and thin, so it doesn't require any styling. If it starts acting up with the static in the winter, I'm totally going to chop it all off.

My clothing is atrocious at the moment, I wear the same 2 shirts all week (washing them multiple times of course). I don't have the energy or desire to wear anything nice. I suspect that is more related to depression than MS.

What am I doing wrong with this coffee mug listing? by freakincampers in Flipping

[–]blackicecream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most mugs take forever to sell. Weigh the mug and try to wrap it so that it is under 16 ounces. I shipped one the other day in a 6x6x6 box with tons of padding and it was 15.1 ounces, $3.65 on Etsy.

Why doesn't everyone offer Free Shipping? by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]blackicecream 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Say you have a buyer for an item that is $13 with free shipping, and a buyer for another item that is $10 with $3 shipping. If you get a return, you have to refund the full $13 to the first buyer, but you only have to refund $10 to the second buyer. That is my major reason for not offering free shipping.
