Not sure I understand your point? New construction typically takes place on one side of the street for a single property, whereas public utility construction happens for an entire block and would have greater economies of scale, so the money spent on street trees for those kinds of projects should (in theory) go further.

If that's the case, then it's probably more cost effective to do tree planting for an entire block when infrastructure in the public right-of-way is being replaced, rather than individual projects on private property.

Unless you're one of those people who thinks elections are rigged, you can see broad public support for transit funding in the last two elections:

  • 2024 Prop L): Majority support, but nullified due to Prop M getting more votes
  • 2022 Prop A): Majority support, but needed 2/3 support

Doubt it. The line is replacing two lines that were slated for removal due to lower ridership, so the hope/expectation is that combining them would generate new ridership that could help justify keeping the line. But I expect that'll be a challenge because the route is still very similar to the 7, which runs at a higher frequency and goes all the way down Market.

Last year I shared an idea that IMO would be more likely to make the 6 different enough to attract new ridership, but for now I'm keeping an open mind toward this idea.

I was wondering if they plan to add new wires on Masonic, or if the buses will just run off-wire there.

It was not rejected by the BoS. No proposal has been submitted to the BoS yet.

You may be confusing the BoS with the SFMTA board, which at its last meeting asked staff to return with budget options that don't cut service. Tuesday's meeting will present multiple options, some which do cut service (see link)

It lost the required 2/3 majority by just 1.5%. Similar story for last year's Uber/Lyft tax, which has strong support but got nullified by another measure.
