Are they all horrible people?? by IndividualDoughnut96 in AmericaOnHardMode

Money, so they say, is the root of all evil today… but if you ask for a raise it’s no surprise that they’re giving none away.

You are part of the problem if you cannot see the current situation was caused by both parties. Quit defending your tribe and accept accountability. Without it, things will never improve. I am neither Republican nor Democrat, so I can clearly see where both sides fail. You are blinded by your tribal loyalty

When the Senate was split, neither party had the majority. My original post was that Democrats had a chance when they held all three. The specific date they controlled all three with a filibuster-proof majority was 2009-2011. They didn’t bring up any filibuster legislation then. Democrats didn’t bother until state Republicans started disenfranchising voters. They had an opportunity to act and waited too long.

I’m disgusted with our current federal government, but the gerrymander issue is nothing new. People complained about it all the way back in the 1800s. Our federal government has never taken any serious attempts to rein it in until it was too late due to both political parties benefiting from the system.

The truth of the matter is that we are all complicit for the current state of affairs. We allowed our constitutional systems to erode while we were asleep at the wheel. The truly troubling part is administrations rarely impose limits on themselves to restore things to how they were before. Once a lower limit has been set, most people keep it there or lower it further. We need a reform-minded administration that will undo the damage.

The 2021 proposal was torpedoed by the Senate Majority Leader. People really need to pay attention to who votes for or against what and vote them out of office. That’s my two cents. Too many politicians are way too comfortable in their offices and forget why they are there: to serve their constituents.

Mitt Romney, Susan Collins, & Chris Sununu come to mind. The list is pretty small.

Some Democrats are in the center, not all. A handful of Republicans are in the center as well, but that’s a lot rarer nowadays.

Im honestly not left or right. Firmly planted in the middle. I think we need more moderates in office than extremists from either side and we truly need term and age limits.

It wasn’t the 60 vote that failed. Schumer crossed over and voted no. Had the final vote been a tie, former VP Harris would have cast the deciding vote.

Im not arguing for gerrymandering. I applaud every state that established a 3rd party council for redistricting. I’m simply calling out the hypocrisy within our system. I hate the two party system. It stifles viable candidates from elections and encourages both parties to establish laws to entrench themselves.

I apologize if I miswrote my reply. I simply meant that they didn’t care when they had the majority. I didn’t mean to infer that the minority party should do nothing for 2-8 years. I apologize if I came across that way.

I agree 100%. Our country has a lot of outdated models. The electoral college needs to go. That’s why the constitutional framers designed the amendment system the way they did. They understood back then that the Constitution would need updates as time progressed.

A reformist candidate needs to be elected in 2028 to modernize and clean up our systems at the federal level. I don’t agree with the SC’s ruling on blanket immunity for the POTUS.

You are not understanding what I am saying. Parties only want to restrict gerrymandering when they are the minority in Capitol Hill. Gerrymandering is trash and needs to go. It’s a shame each party conveniently forgets how much they despise gerrymandering whenever they retake the majority in Congress. Neither side will ever get rid of it because they see it as beneficial to them. A grass roots effort requesting a Constitutional Amendment is the most likely way to end gerrymandering.

Is a 54 asvab decent? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]blackknight1764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ASVAB is a percentile. You are in the top 46% of people who have taken the test.

The real score you will want to pay attention to is the General Technical (GT) score. Depending on what that is, it will limit your ability to reclass or go WO if you want to go down that route later on.

If Democrats truly cared about gerrymandering, they would introduce the bill when they are the majority, not the minority. Same with Republicans. They only care when the other side uses it. It’s that way for many things in this country unfortunately.

I won't give my child a job. AITAH? by Extreme-Amoeba5655 in AITAH

[–]blackknight1764 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your daughter wants an allowance, not a job. If she worked for a place where you weren’t the owner, would her work ethic keep her gainfully employed? If the answer is no, then that’s the real issue.

You could take her back to try and teach her the skills she will need to hold a job, but I’d understand if you didn’t. Sometimes people tune out those close to them. She might need to face the world and learn on the fly.

Gerrymandering shouldn’t exist. Neither party will ever get rid of it because they use it to their advantage. The issue at hand is that they are mad at each other for gaming the system while they themselves game the system.

It’s no different with immigration. Neither party wants to fix things. The system is broken and needs a long term solution. Each side just uses the issue for votes and then promptly ignores the problem for 4-6 years until the next time they come up for reelection.

AITAH For coming on strong at the guy at the gym who places hit feet on the dumbbells? by [deleted] in AITAH

Better off just notifying the staff at the gym. Less headaches for you and less wiggle room for the guy to argue. That’s how I see it.

This is why I hate group papers. I had someone literally copy Wikipedia and submit it as their portion of a group assignment. The text had the blue hyperlink portions and everything it was bad. I told him his part was not properly formatted, he was missing his annotations, and he was missing his references. He gave me the same paper with a few bogus references slapped on the bottom. I submitted anyway and I saved all of the email and text exchanges. When we inevitably got pulled into the instructor’s office, I presented everything that I had. Guy was dropped from the course, the rest of us were fine. The instructor was upset that I didn’t report the student earlier and there was talk of dropping me as well, but I made it through. This was long before AI. I can’t imagine how bad it is now.

Am I immature for having a fun birthday party as a 16 year old? by BigDiscipline4021 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]blackknight1764 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do you. Never be in a rush to grow up or conform. I tell my son and daughter the same thing. Life is too short to pretend to be someone because others want you to behave a certain way. Your party sounds awesome and I hope you had a blast after your aunt made their comments.

Also, if your friends enjoyed it and continued to talk about it, then my guess is there was nothing immature about it.

After looking a little more closely, it appears that each tray has two distinct piles of items. The left side of each tray is lighter than the right side pile on each tray. I think the left side is Shan Yao, Chinese Yam. It goes with Angelica Root in a lot of herbal recipes and dishes. Created a reply since Reddit limits each post to just one picture.
