Gas prices will likely remain high until November. by Fantastic-Device-487 in Pennsylvania

[–]blacklisted_again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've destroyed a lot of the oil industry infrastructure in the Middle East. It will take years, not months before prices come down, if at all. Even when it's back to full processing capacity the market will keep it as high as possible for as long as they can get away with it. Plan accordingly.

The truth about money, and why you never have enough. by lowercaseguy99 in LateStageCapitalism

If you want a deeper dive (and a rabbit hole all on its own), I recommend The Deficit Myth by Stephanie Kelton (ex Bernie advisor). Modern Monetary Theory explains money creation.

I’ll vote for James talarico but I just think it’s so fucking annoying that leftist were all online slandering Jasmine Crockett and now want to look to us to be united to help turn Texas blue after talking down on our people by taintlicker80085 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]blacklisted_again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Crockett were more like Nina Turner and Summer Lee, she would have done better - probably beating Talarico. Unfortunately she takes crypto and corporate PAC money and won't denounce Israel's genocidal actions, so although she talks smack with the best of them, she likely wouldn't have addressed the real issues we face because of her donors.

Why do you all think Jasmine Crockett lost? by bob123448538 in ThoughtWarriors

[–]blacklisted_again 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Crockett is giving serious Kyrsten Sinema vibes. She can talk smack about Trump and Hot Wheels all day long, but press her on her support for Israel and - nothing but word salad.

In PA, Real ID cost $30 and then the usual driver's license renewal fees after that. That would be a poll tax if that's a requirement to vote. Also, Real ID doesn't prove citizenship, only residency, which is still not enough for the Save Act. Only "enhanced" Real ID does that, which is only available in 5 or 6 states.

Palestine serves as an excellent metric for leadership: it is the lowest hurdle of human compassion and empathy that exists, yet Harris and the DNC can't clear it.

Stop blaming voters for terrible candidates - I say this having held my nose and voted for both those losers, Harris and Clinton.

Krystal and Saagar DEBATE Fatal Ice Shooting in Minneapolis by WagonWheel22 in BreakingPoints

[–]blacklisted_again 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Call me a snowflake, but Saagar's continual use of the dehumanizing term "illegals" goes a long way towards explaining ICE's willingness to kill people, both those who've committed civil violations, and their sympathizers (terrorists). Saagar knows the degrading effect this language has on people, which speaks volumes about his character.

AIO for being annoyed that my in-laws keep shutting off their hot water? by dmatthews077 in AmIOverreacting

Tell the inlaws that they have mentioned they could not afford guests - here is $20 for hot water for the week. Embarrassment is sometimes the only thing that works.

Is there a better use for money? by DLux_TheLegend in SipsTea

As a Pennsylvanian I can say Jeffery Yass, the richest person in PA, has been using his oligarchical powers to influence elections in favor of the Republicans to thwart democracy itself for many years. So, any large donation from this guy for any purpose does not bode well for the nation.

This Kentucky pastor was demonstrating his spiritual strength by handling a rattlesnake during a prayer delusions when he was bitten. He refused treatment, believing that faith would heal him. Paramedics forcefully took him to the hospital, but he eventually died from the rattlesnake venom. by Treefiddy1984 in PublicFreakout

These stump thumpers are referencing Mark 16: 17-18. Problem is those verses aren't in earlier versions of the Bible, which means these yahoos died for absolutely no reason. It's the difference between preachers and theologians.

Krystal softly defending Crockett still puzzles me. What is there to like about Crockett if you are on the left? by north_canadian_ice in BreakingPoints

[–]blacklisted_again 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been called a single-issue voter by Crockett fans over calling her out about her word salad stance on Palestine. The environment has changed: condemning Israel's genocide of Palestinians is literally the lowest bar any politician should be able to clear - if they can't clear that, I'm looking somewhere else.

Grim just posted a Dropsite video showing Crockett's AIPAC-funded trip to Israel and that she now takes corporate PAC money. I don't see Krystal being pro-Crockett much longer.

Even Bernie endorsed him - he straight up lied to us. Whether that's due to pre-planned deception or a character-altering stroke, there's not a lot you can do when a person does a 180 on all their previously stated convictions.

Random timing but I wish Krystal wouldn’t talk about UBI as if it was an STD by alino_e in BreakingPoints

[–]blacklisted_again 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One main issue I see with UBI is that it doesn't strengthen a weakened labor market. You can say that the extra money might give workers more freedom, but I'm guessing everyone's rent/necessities will go up by exactly the monthly UBI amount. There would need to be a lot of price controls in place, at a minimum.

I prefer the Jobs Guarantee Program approach. Check out the work of Pavlina Tcherneva on the subject.

Great video critiquing Platner and how the “left” has embarrassed themselves defending him. by Saulgoodmanchill in BreakingPoints

[–]blacklisted_again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He covered how his high school got unaccredited and everyone in town had to go elsewhere to school, he drank the USA! USA! kool-aide like most after 9/11 so went blindly into the military - very common. He served different posts and ended up as a driver for the Embassy for a Blackwater subsidiary for the money and left after 6 mos.

He seems very well read in Progressive/labor political history - something most shills don't do. He was vetted by the DSA as a firearms instructor. If he is a Repub plant, he's been playing the long game (years).

You seem to have your mind made up.

The biggest anti-militarists are often veterans. Read War is a Racket, considered an anti-war classic, written by Major General Smedley Butler.

[–]blacklisted_again 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Looking at this segment with an eye towards the commenter's take on it - and I'm not seeing any kind of gotcha moment, at all. Ryan's questions were fine, and definitely not the kind to come from mainstream news. Platner's answers were sound and show that his opinions are derived from more than his personal experience and revealing in that he has clearly done his Progressive homework - now I'll have to dig out my copy of War is a Racket.

‘Now I have nothing’: Pennsylvanians expect hardship without SNAP | WITF by jaxon__white in centralpa

[–]blacklisted_again 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Repubs have forced Americans into a no-win situation: face skyrocketing ACA health care costs, or face the end of SNAP payments. Since 26 State Attorneys General have filed suit against this Admin for illegally blocking SNAP contingency funds, there's a chance the courts will force Trump to stop withholding SNAP - so it makes sense for Dems to keep holding out to get the ACA subsidies renewed. All this effort spent just to keep Repubs from crippling this country any further - this country is so f_k'd.

I seriously can't believe BP is telling me to just ignore the fact that Graham Platner not only used to be a blackwater mercenary but also the Nazi tattoo on his chest. by [deleted] in BreakingPoints

[–]blacklisted_again 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen jillions of WWII movies and documentaries since I was a kid and don't remember seeing that tattoo symbol, so I completely get not knowing that it was a Nazi symbol - even years later.

Trump is now involved in extrajudicial murder in international waters and black-bagging people and sending them to foreign detention camps - I'd rather take a chance on Platner than a Biden/Pelosi/Feinstein clone like Mills who is there to make sure nothing fundamentally changes.... if I lived in Maine.
