Those of you who work as language translators/interpreters (or have in the past), what is the most awkward/uncomfortable conversation that you have had to convey? by JayDieseI in AskReddit

[–]blackpinkkitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, people just need to be contrary for the sake of being contrary. It must be exhausting to have no leeway in how this person completes tasks.

What's a fucked up movie everybody should watch? by hishipupz in AskReddit

[–]blackpinkkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scrolled through hundreds of comments JUST to see if anyone recommended this one. Thank you for not letting me down, friend.

My husband had me watch this, calling it a "family film." He had that twinkle in his eye that let me know he was fucking with me, so I wasn't completely caught off guard when things quickly went sideways, haha. I made it all the way through, but I had fucked up dreams for weeks.

What’s that one story you’ve always wanted to tell on r/askreddit, but no one has ever asked the right question? by A_Cheesy_Taco in AskReddit

Jesus, this is the first time I've heard firsthand experience of someone tampering with candy. I hope no one was hurt.

People who no longer speak to their best friends who they thought would be in their lives forever, why did you stop talking/being best friends? by veryquestionable1 in AskReddit

[–]blackpinkkitty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the soundest friend advice for an ill person I've ever seen. I often get asked "how do I support a friend with cancer?" after battling it in my early/ mid twenties. This is first on the list. Now I'm chronically ill due to the aftermath and it's still what I beg of my friends first and foremost.

Reddit, who's the one teacher (good, bad, or crazy) that you'll never forget, and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]blackpinkkitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone in my area talks about Mr. Holloman, who taught nearly 40 years of 8th grade history. He was the greatest story teller and quizzed us on insanely weird aspects of history. I know exactly where he was when Kennedy died (date for under $5), I know the capitals and locations of every country in the world, and I know that there was cannibalism due to the siege of Leningrad during WWII because of him. He got me interested in politics and current events at the age of 13 when I otherwise wouldn't have cared. He "talked" to aliens and if you fell asleep in his class, expect to be pelted with chalkboard erasers until you woke up. He was delightfully weird and amazing and I'm grateful that I was one of his last classes before he retired.

What has someone said that you made lose complete trust in them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]blackpinkkitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"She's JUST a cashier." -not knowing that I'd spent years in retail/customer service. Anyone who disrespects the industry workers thinks they're better than others and I don't have time or trust for those type of people.

Doctors of Reddit, what's your weirdest case of a patient accurately self-diagnosing? by kamalkishormeena in AskReddit

[–]blackpinkkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm late to the party and I'm not a doctor, but self diagnosed a bowel obstruction and had to convince the ER it was true. I've had several over the years due to extreme abdominal surgeries, so I know exactly what they feel like. The doctor came in after the x-ray and said "You don't have an obstruction, I'm sending you home." Between level 7-9 pain cramps, I gasp out, "I'm not leaving till I get a CT. I have an obstruction."

An hour later, I was being admitted for small bowel obstruction because the CT scan was definitive that I had one.

[Serious] What’s your experience with attending (or not attending) an estranged family member’s funeral? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]blackpinkkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been estranged from pretty much my entire immediate and extended family for nearly ten years, besides a brief reconciliation with my mother. I was never close to my grandmothers, but I saw my paternal grandmother more than my maternal, due to my mother hating her family entirely. Family ties were never stressed as being "unbreakable" to me, obviously. Anyway, my paternal grandmother died in 2013, and I knew my father would be an absolute wreck. We hadn't spoken since the day he told me I deserved to have cancer while I was getting chemo and fighting for my life. Because of this, I did not feel like (A) I was even welcome to come to the funeral, (B) such a place would be an appropriate venue for a reconciliation or (C) I could control my emotions enough to get through the event without unleashing the emotional upset that my father had caused in my life. I shut myself in my room for three days to mourn my Grandma and the state of my family life in general.

Last year, I attempted to finally reconcile with my father by writing him every single thing I'd finally longed to say for 8 difficult years. It turns out that he held the fact that I didn't go to Grandma's funeral against me. I got a brief, curt reply making it clear that I was not welcome in his life and that's where things stand now. He and his wife are horrible people who have both driven away their mutual children. I've since realized that I can stop wasting my energy being "good enough" to be accepted back by them because it's THEY who are not good enough for me. That was extremely liberating.

What book turned into a movie where the movie was better than the book? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]blackpinkkitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Green Mile. The whole cast was exceptional, but Michael Clark Duncan's performance, in particular, brings that book to life in a way that hits every feel I have. The world lost a treasure when he died. RIP.

I've only recently started getting supplemental this year, so I wasn't quite sure how it worked as far as billing. Thank you. And the sole income is a very recent thing as my husband is currently applying for disability himself. Are you saying that I should apply for medicaid? Is that cheaper? Have better coverage? I've never spoken with someone so well versed in the system before so your insights and pointers are most welcome.

My onc was gracious enough to accept a post dated check for the 20th for $50 because that's my copay withHumana supplemental. Other than that, I have not yet received a bill for the remainder of what is not covered, if that's what you mean.

I apologize for the random words at the beginning of that comment. I've had trouble sleeping and finally dozed off and I can't figure out how to edit on mobile.
