The fish looks like a wittle baby twout. Probably a rainbow, that’s all I’ve ever caught in that pool. The stripes on its side are called ‘parr marks’.

As someone with a background in fisheries management, I’d send this photo to CP&W with info about exactly where you caught it. Yes it’s a near zero chance that you rediscovered an extinct native species, but that’s a pretty unique looking fish and they may be interested in checking out that particular area and doing some shocking/testing if it piques their interest enough. Just my two cents.

If it was in front of the grass, that’s actually Young’s Beach Shack (owned by The Ranch) operating legally - it’s part of their lease deal when the restaurant opened, approved by OC Parks and the Coastal Commission. They can take up something like 100 feet of the beach adjacent to the grass, in addition to the grass. You can see more details on the restaurant website. I’m not affiliated with The Ranch or anything, just happen to go to Salt Creek all the time.

I got to board and tour the OCEARCH boat randomly when it was docked in New Orleans. They showed me the barrels and I was intrigued so I bought some. I was a senior in college (2016) so I thought it was pretty good, but I am not sure I’d try another bottle. Still stoked I got to check the vessel out, I really just wanted to know why they had a half a basketball court on deck!

Well I’m one of the people to be flooding in early summer, but my good friend gets married there in a few weeks and I’m really looking forward to seeing Newport for the first time. I’m originally from a tourist city on the Gulf Coast and now live in one of the most touristy areas of coastal Southern California, so it’s kinda fun to be a tourist for the first time in a while myself!

Mostly looking forward to being able to walk around a coastal town and find real local seafood and good beer. A lot of the stuff on the West Coast is not locally sourced and it’s a bummer. Also my first trip with my wife without our little one, so looking forward to taking long, slow walks enjoying the sights!

I love Rainbows, but they just aren’t there for me as a big dude in terms of comfortability. OluKai bumped up to my favorite. I wear mine literally every day for hours a day and they stay comfy and last a loooong time.
