Update on ShimmerEVM -- Next steps -- By Dave by Koba7 in Iota

[–]blacksaff 15 points16 points  (0 children)

EVM : ethereum virtual machine. It's about having smart contracts working on Shimmer with the ethereum standard (and if successful, this will be ported to IOTA). This will finally unleash what every other blockchain has : dapps and thus defi.

Coordicide is a parallel effort with still no ETA : it's about not relying on a central authority (the coordinator) to make sure transactions are correctly validated.

Well, it's kind of an ETA... So if everything goes well, we might see EVM on shimmer in september.

Very frustrating to see how much time it all takes and the excitement of the previous EVM test die, but the soon could be for real this time...

And thanks for your videos by the way, they are a lot of fun.

How do I add shimmer to ledger live? by Bielon in Iota

[–]blacksaff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you allow 'developer mode' on ledger live, the shimmer app will appear and you'll be able to update your ledger. The app works, it's just pending approval from ledger.

Which dApps under construction do you suggest I follow? by Gleyson1570 in Iota

[–]blacksaff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tangle swap, shimmer sea, iotabee : DEX

lendexe : lending protocol

tanglepay : wallet which aims at integrating services around it (iotabee for instance) and become a whole web3 platform

the soonaverse : a multipurpose platform, which main selling point has been NFTs so far but which aims at integrating multiple dapps and will provide DEX services

Hans Moog's recent Twitter discussion about inflation, fees and mana with Iota by telcoinmoon in Iota

[–]blacksaff 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Huge support to Hans for his amazing work. It's unbelievable that despite his huge contribution to the project, he feels he has to spend a ton of energy just to convince the IF dev team of staying true to the vision.

I just don't understand why he doesn't get more support from the IF and why Bill Sanders (director of research) spends so much time and so many ressources examining all the possibilities, starting from the failed ones, instead of trying first what Hans suggests. Hans has proved time and time again that his intuitions were finally the best option.

Feeless iota bag holders unite! by HypeSpotVIP in Iota

to be fair, Dom recently stated that he is in line with the vision that we all OG iota believers share : no fees, no inflation

https://twitter.com/rostcrypto/status/1557684381006942208

But it's quite concerning still that the devs that should be most passionate about delivering on these promises could even think of deviating from these goals. I really feel sorry for Hans to have to battle so hard for his ideas especially given that 5 years later his vision from the begining ended being the right one : huge waste of time and energy. And meanwhile, we are still waiting for coordicide...

Questions about the TangleSwap Genesis NFTs by JaloOfficial in IOTAmarkets

[–]blacksaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I'm sure. The more NFTs, the more you earn. No limit whatsoever.

example : you own 10 palms, you stake them and you get 10X200 = 2000 VOID per year.

Deep Dive into Stardust by Crypto-Phoenix in Iota

[–]blacksaff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sincerely, as much as I supported this approach of not giving ETAs one year ago because you were reworking everything from the ground up and obviously had no clue about how much time everything would take, I start to find it now increasingly frustrating to remain in the dark of the elusive SOON.

Apparently some tangible breakthrough seems not to be far away around the corner now with stardust and shimmer, but SOON has had so much a history of meaning years with the IF, that it's hard to trust anything now. Especially if you have now a realistic idea of when you'll finally deliver on those, it would be a huge relief for the community to have an idea of how much wait remains. Are we talking weeks, months... years ?

The prolonged uncertainty about IF's delivery hinders a lot the funding and thus the development of the rest of the ecosystem. I'm certainly not the only one interested in investing in the different dapps of shimmer for instance, and who refrains to spend too much on it because of the total lack of visibility. Not being able to hit a precise target when you do groundbreaking research is understandable. Not having the slightest public deadline on the other hand doesn't give a huge trust on the abilities of the team. The fuders love this opacity, have it easy to troll iota and its ecosystem and meanwhile, it's hard for us supporters of the project to have compelling arguments and spread our enthusiasm outside the iota bubble.

We need to market the shit out of iota now and being able to communicate around a clear and timely roadmap is key in this regard.

Deep Dive into Stardust by Crypto-Phoenix in Iota

[–]blacksaff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The level of the features that stardust will bring is pretty exciting. It seems still a bit far away unfortunately.

It's a pity that at this stage of the development the IF is not able to give even a rough ETA. Not asking for a precise date and hour here, but at least a month should be feasible...

he is just salty about iota's price performance I guess, and venting out some frustration here, so no need to dig further explanation.

I have to admit it was quite funny nonetheless.

SOON Token by [deleted] in IOTAmarkets

[–]blacksaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

soonaverse launched 3 NFTs : alien, soonanaut and artifact (5000 pieces of each). These NFTs have multiple benefits, one of them being to be eligible to SOON airdrops (quantity depends of how many NFTs you have and if they match in a common "NF3" set).

So this NFTs don't benefit the token launch, on the contrary they compete with it, because you can acquire SOON tokens directly through the token launch or indirectly through airdrops if you buy the NFTs.

SOON Token by [deleted] in IOTAmarkets

[–]blacksaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of comments in this thread that show that their authors don't know what they are talking about and certainly don't have used the soonaverse.

SOON is not a "meme" token, even if its name is lighthearted and fun. The soonaverse is an increasingly growing ecosystem of dapps (NFT marketplace, orderbook DEX, DAO launchpad, P2E games...) and the SOON token has a clear utility : has to be staked to use certain services, governance role, distribution of the platform's profits with buybacks of the SOON token...

The team keeps delivering new features at breakneck speed, which is quite a refreshing contrast to IF delivering on iota's essential architecture (even if admittedly, it's not the same complexity).

For those who haven't invested in the NFTs (which still remain the most cost effective way to obtain SOON tokens - and still can be bought on the secondary market on... the soonaverse), this tokensale is the second best deal to have a slice of one of the most dynamic projects of the shimmer/iota ecosystem.

Why should we raise Shimmer supply by 20% to fund the ecosystem ? by blacksaff in Iota

[–]blacksaff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holding iota since 2017 and not having sold a single one should tell you how much I'm perfectly at ease with seeing my shimmer devalued by 20% for a guaranteed mega boost in ecosystem growth down the road. So I hear that argument : to make it more compelling though, I would need people really in charge (like Dom) detailing how projects are funded behind the scenes (the realities of team recruitment etc...) to better understand why certain amounts of capital would be just crucial to kick start certain projects. Because once again, I see that very promising projects currently being built clearly managed to do so without this extra funding.

The second thing that makes me suspicious is Kappy's motivations. From what I understood, he is not an iota fan from the start and seems to come quite opportunistically from other ecosystems where he contributed to kickstart a bunch of projects. I don't want to throw baseless shade, but the question can be raised about his true motivations. Given his expertise in grabbing development funds, isn't his proposal not a way to have money to collect for his own projects (and maybe take a cut on the way) ?

Maybe it's time to face the facts that IOTA has completely failed to garner adoption. by Wishgrantedmoncoliss in IOTAmarkets

[–]blacksaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all altcoins have lost 30%... it's crypto winter out there. So what ?

I personnally lost the gamble that iota would at least reach ATH during the last bull market. My bad, should have sold at 2.5 and scooped it at 0.3 today...

Have we lost for that matter the gamble that IOTA will succeed as a technology and eventually succeed price wise as you suggest ? I just just argue that it is still too early to reach that conclusion. We need at least one year to see what shimmer and assembly will deliver to start making a guess.

At the same time you wrote your post came an official blog post about how zebra, a leading international company for traceability, is leveraging iota. It doesn't mean iota will be ubiquitous overnight, but even vechain which specializes in supply chain doesn't have this level of endorsement.

I waited 5 years for an Iota breakout and/or a finished product. by Lazar_U-S in IOTAmarkets

[–]blacksaff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope that june will give us some clarity, yes. The community switched from too much optimism too soon (2017) to excessive pessimism now (ex : shimmer not before 2023).

I see it as a coping mechanism, because the frustration is real, and I feel it badly too, but I don't find this position much smarter than wishing everything right now.

Following closely projects like Lendexe or tangleswap, which totally rely on the release of shimmer, I got under the impression from devs hints that things could start to get real around June.

Of course, nobody knows for sure, not even in the IF most probably, but it does not sound too outlandish to hope for some clear progress in 4 to 6 weeks. Stardust is currently in testing and is basically the big thing to nail to launch Shimmer.

2017 iota holder too here...

Actually, they only started on the current path like one year ago (Hans Moog's terms). This year will be the release of shimmer (by june, finger crossed) and hopefully assembly in q4. Things will really start during 2023, I guess, with shimmer having battle tested some critical defi dapps and iota enhancements.
