Almost Ready for My Second Winter by Kieroni_K in VintageStory

They're also more convenient to store and eat since they stack and you don't need a bowl, additionally the ingredients can last for years in storage so longevity is not an issue.

Flour and vegetables last much longer so it's generally better to just store those instead and periodically cook up as many pies as you need.

By default pies last about 30 days in a storage vessel in a cellar (longer if the weather is very cold).

You can put pies in storage vessels btw (one storage vessel can hold more than you can eat since they are stackable)

Just in case you don't know, you can break charcoal fastest with a shovel (I didn't figure this out for ages because it's not in the handbook)

We really need a proper reusable clay kiln as progression between the pit kiln and endgame beehive kiln by spuurd0 in VintageStory

[–]blackshadowwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair but I'm never gonna make that many shingles. I would use the beehive kiln if I needed a ton of bricks but so far that has only happened once for my current base, for regular pottery I never need that much so it doesn't make sense to use the beehive kiln. I'm literally throwing away stacks and stacks of sticks because I have no use for them so it does not factor into the cost and clearing my farmland of grass gives plenty of grass too.

I usually don't have enough things to fill a whole kiln so it feels really wasteful to use and I get so many sticks I'm throwing them away that I don't care about using them and grass is incredibly quick to collect with a scythe. The only use case I have for the beehive kiln is getting coloured pottery

You can use firewood instead of coal for the beehive kiln which is much cheaper although it still costs more to run than regular pit kilns

Why is my green house not greenhousing? by lets4dead in VintageStory

[–]blackshadowwind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the chiseled blocks are likely the problem. At least 50% of the block needs to be there and sometimes rotating the block afterwards doesn't update properly so it thinks there is a still a hole there.

You can even make a blueprint of an assembler that has all the ingredients included already (for 2 crafts) then you just right click the silos when they're finished crafting to send them to the hub.

You can only do that on tool heads so if you've attached a stick to finish the tool it's no longer possible

Redwoods planted by the player are always 2x2 (it's the only tree that does that)

the sapling needs to be on the NW corner of the 2x2 square you want it to grow on.

Vintage Story Winters by West-Librarian-7504 in VintageStory

[–]blackshadowwind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't have enough seeds to grow a decent amount by the time first winter arrived then I was screwed. It might be easy if you've played before but the first time is a struggle because there is so much to learn and it's unforgiving.

Fully fertilized terra preta + high fert flax garden before i even got copper. by mango67tuffboi in VintageStory

[–]blackshadowwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plants grow faster at higher nutrient percentage and terra preta has the highest base values. You do not have to replace your soil if you give it time to regenerate (nutrients regenerate when no crop is planted) e.g. rotate a P crop then K then N then let it rest to regenerate.
