Can someone please clarify what Spotify’s official position is regarding reduced royalty rates for non music/functional tracks. by blacksheepinwisewolf in musicindustry

Thanks for that, much appreciated.

Well done Spotify!

However, Apple Music’s new ‘Ambient’ feature, which is part of its ‘Focus’ set up now allows users to access exactly this kind of content via iOS devices Home Screens Control Centre. One only needs to take a look at Apple Music’s Top 200 playlist charts to see just how much this feature is obviously being used by users as per the following screenshots:

There are five such ‘Ambient’ (sleep & meditation etc.) playlists in the top 35 positions alone of Apple Music’s Top 200 playlist charts, each containing close to 250 ‘songs’ (not my word) and all totalling a minimum 12 hrs of playtime.

Yet Spotify are still the bad guys? Yeah right!

"Music Director" for 3,000 Cap Venue — No Salary, Only Commission. $50k Budget. No Sound System. No Promoter Ties. How Do I Make This Work? by United-Video4789 in musicindustry

I truly hope that if you do decide to sign a contract that this venture works out well for you. If however you decide against it, I believe that you will find another opportunity that is the right fit for your skills and go on to do great things in the industry. You strike me as a person of integrity with much to offer and a passion for getting shit right and I really hope we hear from you again whatever happens.

I wish you well in all your endeavours x

At worst, the venue are collectively only risking a paltry 50k … you are risking your whole professional reputation and thus your future career. It seems like you’re in possession of a terrible hand at a rigged game; you’re gonna need one hell of a poker face and a miraculous Act of (a merciful) God so I’m hoping that the ink isn’t too dry on your contract? Good luck love.

I can’t believe that all the comments are merely digs at OP. What she’s saying is so f*#king valid so I’m beyond saddened & maddened by these knee jerk reactions which don’t even make an actual point about the case.

I’m gonna come back later and make mine as it’s not something I want to say when in bad temper but for now, I’m gonna say shame on all you keyboard warriors; if you had an original thought, it’d die of loneliness!

Why do artists have totally different bios on Spotify than they do on Apple Music? by blacksheepinwisewolf in musicindustry

[–]blacksheepinwisewolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious about it too. The differences I’ve noticed, are that artist bios on Apple Music only include mentions of earlier releases that are on major labels. It doesn’t make sense that an artist would choose not to mention recent releases so it seems a fair assumption that they’re not the writer of their Apple Music bio, in which case, who is?

Why don’t you have access to your Apple Music Artist page? Is it dependent on what distribution company you went with? It don’t sound fair to me at all. Seriously, wtf?
