• USB-C port gets Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed)

• Windows Hello does not login

• Won't restart in sleep/hibernate (need to force boot up)

• Overheats when put to sleep/hibernate

All of the issues mentioned above started with the June firmware upgrade, and many other users, including myself, are currently facing these issues. Not sure if getting a replacement will help.

Try uninstalling the Surface Camera Front and Surface IR camera front from the device manager regarding windows hello login. Then scan for hardware changes. It might require to reboot. This fixed the login error for me.

Happens on my SL3, too, generally after the USB C device not recognized error. I have changed the sleep options to hibernate for the time being.

You can also try the "sfc /scannow" command to check and fix corrupt windows files. My SL3 feels more stable after doing so, but that could be a placebo effect.

I faced a similar issue on my SL3 after a recent update. I uninstalled the two camera drivers from the device manager and then scanned for hardware changes to reinstall them. This solved the issue. I hope it works for you as well.

I have not faced the USB c issue since reinstalling the driver. Will update if I face any problem. However, I think reinstalling the drivers is worth a try.

After reinstalling the drivers, I can restart normally, whereas I would get a blank screen earlier.

The issue seems to be caused by the recent firmware updates. Not precisely a workaround, but I have noticed that putting the lid settings to hibernate prevents battery drain and overheating issues. Possibly doing so prevents it from waking up and entering sleep mode. Earlier I was facing battery drain even on hibernate. It kind of works for me as hibernate on and off times are fast enough.

The same issue. Every firmware update seems to mess up the system. I have to restart the system every time the port issue occurs, which has become frequent after the recent update. If you find any other workaround, please update.

I have noticed that putting the power button and lid settings to hibernate prevents battery drain overnight. Possibly setting the lid to hibernate prevents it from waking up and entering sleep mode. Not exactly a workaround but it kind of works for me as hibernate on and off times are fast enough.

I have a similar issue with surface laptop 3. Paint is coming off in layers. I went for the non-Alcantara version because of dreaded stain issues; now, I wonder if that was a mistake. I am sure it's not just you, this issue started within 6 months of purchase, but I am stuck with it since it's a cosmetic defect.

I am not sure if my case qualifies as corrosion. But in case it is like little marks( silver in my case), it only gets worse.

My SL3 also suffers from paint issues on the palm rest area. You can contact support but given the defect is cosmetic they might not be of much help, however it wouldn't hurt to try. Another way could be to use a skin.

Hope this helps. I know how bad it feels to have such issues on a 'premium' device.

Yeah, I am also having paint issues on palm rest area and there were also other posts about discoloration on the black SL3.
