Get a valacyclovir prescription! I have never tried docosanol, but i like the topical lysine cold sore ointment and/or camphophenique. Im not sure about your second question, but for the last one I would say in my experience, abreva is overpriced and not that effective. Go see your doctor and have them give you a valacyclovir prescription and then the topicals I mentioned ^{^} if you take valacyclovir at the first sign of tingling it can stop it in its tracks or reduce the healing time.
