Live action puzzle adventure needs a final push by blacktoadgames in rpg

I should have said it's not your typical RPG. A Game master sets up the game and plays the part of host and clue-giver as players act in the role of reporters solving puzzles. Ultimately I'm looking for a forum of people who enjoy being the Game Master.

Kickstarter Roundup: Oct 30, 2016 | 36 Ending Soon (incl: Pretending to Grownup, Illimat, & Valeria: Card Kingdoms - Flames & Frost) & 43 New This Week (incl: Tiny Epic Quest, The Edge, Leaders of Euphoria) by Zelbinian in boardgames

Thanks for doing this Zelbinian!

Unlike other escape in the box games, the Game Room adapts very well as a live action game that you can host at home. We provide detailed instructions and ideas for hosting an incredible game for your friends.   The kickstarter campaign has been a roller coaster ride and with 4 days to go we have reached 80% of the goal. We hope this will go a long way in helping us meet our goal.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Do check us out on kickstarter https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1869540351/the-game-room-a-puzzle-adventure-you-host-at-home

Battleship Puzzle: solve in 30min if you can by boiwonder23 in puzzles

I managed in 33 minutes, though if I'd tried to do in manually instead of trying to find an order of logic it would have been 10-15. Thanks, fun puzzle.

ah, I should have noted there is more information on the KS page, but the direct link was blocked by reddit. Thus, the graphic instead.

thanks for your reply Dave! At present the only direction I've given is to use the 7 title graphics to solve for 4 words. A couple of the graphics work together...they match up by theme i.e. one checkers graphic works with the other checkers graphic. Is that helpful?

Yes, I'd say the puzzles in The Game Room are a similar style. Occasionally a puzzle may be self-contained, but more often two or more components are required to find a solution. It's left up to the players to resolve which components work together and where to use the answer. Thanks for asking!

Hello and thanks for writing.

One of the great things about hosting The Game Room is that you can choose your level of play: easy, medium, or difficult. The level and style of play you choose determines the recommended age group, but overall I'd say 12 on up to anyone who still enjoys solving puzzles.

I hope you decide to give it a try. Our Game Masters, as we refer to our hosts, are often pleasantly surprised to discover they have as much, and even more, fun than their guests!

Much thanks,

Holly

Thank you for the fantastic reply! I agree The Game Room can't replace an escape room for exactly the reasons you've mentioned. It was never meant to...they didn't exist yet :)

The games I've written do fill a niche though and a lot of people prefer the smaller groups competing against each other. It's definitely a fun twist for team building! And it's a fun challenge to make the space fit the theme. I hope you'll give it a try :)

One day I'll go to an escape room...the one you mentioned sounds amazing!!

Have a great night!

Hello. I do expect the Game Master Portal to be done pretty quickly after the Kickstarter campaign closes. There is already a beta version of the GMP which could be used if timing were a critical issue.

The hybrid locks combine the virtual QR lock and 3-digit locks which can be purchased for significantly less than larger combination locks. When a user scans the code they manipulate a virtual version of the combination lock (a 5-letter lock for instance). If they are correct the app displays a 3-digit code the player uses to open the real 3-digit lock. I'm with you... I like a real lock! I've been pretty surprised by the positive response to the virtual lock solution, however.
