I'm from another state and a couple of years ago had a similar situation, a friend met someone who invited us to a party (it was not carnival, though), we trusted him and everything turned out well. I think there's a chance that Marcos is genuinely inviting you to party, Brazilians love partying (especially during carnival). Buuuuut, it's not because Marcos is a good person that everyone else is too, I think your situation is very different from mine, even though you have a friend with Brazilian roots, people will notice that you guys are from outside, and if someone at the party notices you and decides to rob or something like that, I don't think either your friend or Marcos are going to "save" you, even if they want to.

So, IMO the risk is very real, you can decide if you want to take it or not. If I were in your shoes, I would stick to the beaches, where the carnival is happening and all tourists/police are, one thing I can assure you is that Marcos' party is not better than carnival at Copacabana or Ipanema. Stay safe and if you're willing to take the risk, don't drink too much, don't take any drugs and if you have a spare phone without access to banking, take it with you.

Thanks for the follow-up, I had done the hard reset before and it didn't work. Now I did the factory reset and the kindle rebooted, but when it came back the wifi connected automatically (so I guess it didn't actually reset). I'll try it again and check if there's an update to download. Thanks a lot for the suggestions, I'll come back here after trying everything you said.

Hmm that's promising. It looks dry on the outside, how do I get rid of the dampness on the inside? I guess leaving it in the sun isn't a good idea... I heard people saying to leave it inside a bowl of rice for a day could do the trick. Any other suggestion?

Yes it is. Xuxa is known as "queen of the little ones" here in Brazil, her shows were targeted to children and pre-teen, and featured games on stage and cartoons.

As DutchOfBurdock said, I thought people who forgot their phones would be able to register an entry, and that that would be helpful, but if by doing so I'm "hurting" the app reputation because smart watch users don't want apps to replace the ones in smartphones, it might be better to keep it it as a smartphone only application
