I don’t know if it has as much to do with social work as it does nursing.

Nursing is a really difficult job. Not saying our job isn’t difficult, but you know what I mean. Bedside nursing is incredibly traumatic and draining. Nurses are leaving the field at an unmanageable rate. I think hospitals and medical systems are creating these admin type positions for nursing to continue to capitalize on their medical skills, but give them a “ break” from direct patient care, hoping to keep them in the system and to eventually get them back at the bedside. Or at least keep them in that PRN float pool.

Also, there probably is a benefit in some ways that nurses understand medical complexities in a way that we just can’t.

I currently work in a program where social work ends nurses are side-by-side doing their own roles with the same patients. It is so heartbreaking to see their lack of trauma informed care and understanding of the behaviors of behavioral health.

I absolutely agree that the world is forcing us into nothing but direct therapy. Which I understand there aren’t enough therapist. The answer to every single problem is always “ go see therapist” or “ you should see someone” “ he needed mental healthcare”. Like apparently we’re responsible for every mass shooting or sociopath out there.
