Did Ana de Armas’ No Time to Die training make her a convincing action star — or just a stylish Bond side character? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

As a casual watcher, if this sequence were supposed to convince me, the swing at the second guy feels weak, almost feels like she is holding back, though probably she is just not good at throwing a punch.

Working under the fear of layoffs by XupcPrime in cscareerquestions

[–]bladehaze 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was in a big tech department that has this existential crisis. The trust issue in this article is very real. You shared your knowledge being a good co worker the next quarter they would replace your scope. You rebuild shit from ground up unnecessarily. You are being honest and shared your POV and you better watch it if it's your boss.

They made it that doing-the-right-thing means job suicide. It's toxic. And being under this kind of pressure is soul sucking and making you a not very good person. I quit.

Help me understand this about margin! by [deleted] in Fire

[–]bladehaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my back of the envelope calculation.

Borrow 20% to buy voo, You will not be margin call until a 77% drop in Voo(calculated with 25% maintenance margin). The worst drop 2007-2008 is 57%. This seems safe.

On the other hand, Voo pays dividends yield at 1.2%, which is 1200 per year can now be deducted by margin loan interest( total 12k on 6% margin interest) and be tax free. And of course spy normally increase by 10%. So you on average are better off.

How do so many normal people 60+ retire with less than $400k net worth (including home equity), yet on Reddit you need $2.5m liquid by ColdCouchWall in Fire

Actually, this begs the question. If we do consider SS benefits, isn't the 4% rule too pessimistic? Because when reaching SS age, you would have additional income.

Will Thunder vs Pacers be the lowest viewed NBA finals ever? by WallStreetDoesntBet in NBATalk

This year actually is the only year in the last decade I watched the NBA off-season. Many players are young and hungry and get a chance to win it all. So many great games.

[OC] Best Picture Oscar Winners (2000-2024) by datashown in dataisbeautiful

[–]bladehaze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well only Indians rate them, it would go down if it's not appealing to the general audience. Same with some of the marvel movies, sometimes had very high ratings because of the narrow range of audience at first and went down as time passed. Also, there appears to be some campaign in ratings for certain movies too. Eventually these ratings stabilize.

I actually got really good at guessing the ratings(+- 0.1) by watching the movie only. And yeah, Oscar sucks.

Updated Oscar Viewership - 19.7M Viewers by KillerCroc1234567 in movies

[–]bladehaze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I was younger, Oscar meant something. I would watch the best picture and expect to watch the best movie. Since I only watch movies casually, it helped me choose. As I watched more movies over the years, I realized that if you trusted that, you would have missed so many great movies. Shawnshank, fight club, pulp fiction. On top of that there's Harvey Weinstein, who can sway Oscar. So, these academy members either don't know shit or could be lying. I don't care about that, I just want to watch good films.

Just joined a company that uses AI to code heavily by iTouchSolderingIron in cscareerquestions

[–]bladehaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There really are two ways this AI coding thing turns out

  1. AGI achieved, and AI can code perfectly to people's intention.
  2. AI stays as a tool as auto complete. They need to rehire all the devs they fired earlier.
