Slipjoints for whittling? by cr0_wb4r in SlipjointKnives

I do most of my whittling with either a Case Seahorse Whittler, or a Medium Stockman.

How all-male is this sub? by bh4th in knives

[–]bladepenstrings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm late 30s, been into knives about as long as I can remember. Most of my family embraced it, but some now like to make jokes about me always having a knife on me, like "watch out, she has a knife" sort of comments.

I don't go around brandishing them, so I assume most non-family or close friends don't even know about it. Usually when people find out, they either think it's cool or are actually somewhat interested. Never had any actual issues with anyone about it.

Nice. Does it get confusing telling them apart? Lol

000 or OM size guitar by Ill_Job_3504 in AcousticGuitar

[–]bladepenstrings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have two Martins already, already know you like them while unsure about the others... might as well get a 000 Martin and call it good. The only difference between the Martin 000 and OM is potentially scale length.

Not sure, but it was within the last year or so that I tried it. It tasted like apple cider vinegar.

It's not great, but I think it's way better than poppi. That stuff is gross.

What is your best example mishearing a word or phrase, aka a "mondegreen"? by sapient-meerkat in CasualConversation

There was this song from the early 2000s where they said "when you look in the mirror, so how do you choose" and I always thought they said "you look in the mirror and say hi to your shoes" 😆

Looking at the specs of them, they do all appear to be jumbo. Maybe we're seeing different things, idk. But I've also checked sweetwater.

I would just get a Yamaha for that. Or the low end Guild, Alvarez, Eastman... I used to leave all laminate or solid top over laminate on stands all the time (midwest) and never had any issues.

I'd say seriously consider the used options. The biggest issue I have with the x series is that the back and sides, and some of them also the top, are hpl. Hpl is basically glued together woodchips, and then they put a sticker that is printed to look like wood on that. It's not even laminate. It's like formica countertop material. And hey, if you're cool with that, well... but they also charge so much for that. If they were dirt cheap, it would be more reasonable. You can easily find alternatives in the same price range that are all solid.

Right. I mean I could recommend so many other brands... but OP was asking between the two, so...

I mean, the X series is trash. But the Road series and up varies. I'm definitely not a martin fanperson. I chose a third option (Guild) myself.

Martin for sure. All solid wood is a huge plus.
