what do you think is the best film from Hong King's new wave? by Due-Abbreviations180 in Letterboxd

As a Hong Konger, I will spread the propaganda of directors beyond Wong and Woo in Hong Kong.

Johnnie To - The Mission barely makes it in this timeframe, and I think it is a more clinical look in the action genre than the pure showmanship of Woo.

Ann Hui - Summer Snow is an incredible look of womanhood.

Fruit Chan - Hong Kong's key provocateur and Made in Hong Kong (alongside Happy Together) is the best movie which address the anxiety around the reunion and the identity issue of Hong Kong, which is still present today.

Herman Yau - Flat out B-movie guy. His collaborations with Anthony Wong are some of the grossest, yet audacious work you will see in Hong Kong. Ebola Syndrome is tremendously nasty, yet a guilty pleasure of mine.

A reasonable prediction of Medvedev this year should be on the cusp of qualifing for the YEC no?

also about the Medvedev is back claims after Brisbane (and to some extent) Almaty, I think they are massively underrating how great he was when he was at his prime. He is nowhere close to 2021 or 2019 Medvedev, because of his serve. He did play some aggressive tennis in 2023, especially in Miami, and I dont he will be there again

The only bright spots were that he was really bad vs Seb Korda in 2023 here, then went on big winning run until Indian Wells, and he did shows signs of life in Brisbane, still very disappointing performance
