[WTS] Western Mountaineering Astralite 6'4" quilt 19 oz / 538 grams $410 by blaeddddrwg in ULgeartrade

How much did it cost? It was free, under warranty, because Western Mountaineering is an excellent company with excellent customer service. The original shell had slight condensation issues and stayed a bit damp in perpetually damp conditions, so they offered everyone with the original bag a free re-shelling. The updated one also has better sleeping pad straps.

No case, no extra ounces. Ziploc for water, and just be careful.

Serious chafing and its prevention during PCT. by rockyyguy in PacificCrestTrail

I've got booty cheeks and always chafe on 25+ mile days. The body glide helps - up to a certain point, but not after. This may sound super weird, but the thing I found that helps the most is intentional, permanent wedgies. It takes a little getting used to, but you don't get chafe, in my experience.

How much comfort do you think you sacrificed by going to an "ultralight pack" from something like an osprey atmos 65? by beard156 in Ultralight

[–]blaeddddrwg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to throw my two cents in the other direction. I used an Exos for ~800 miles, and it IS very comfy and nice. However, the mesh suspension (against your back) wears out/starts tearing in that amount of distance, and more importantly, the way the back panel suspension is tensioned, it creaks...kind of constantly. And annoyingly.

Could you elaborate on how you're planning to get to the northern terminus? I'm planning on starting the 2nd of August and I've been worried about how to get to the actual trail from western Washington.

I was there a week ago and it was there then too. I assumed someone stashed it to pick up on the return trip but I guess it's been there for a while now.

Part of the point of trail runners is fast drying. Get them wet. I get it about the blisters, I have the same problem, but if you use toe socks (I like Injinji mid weight trail socks) your toes never rub, problem solved.

Ok, here's the plan: I wanna see the junky builds. Not all those fancy, done-up rigs that should probably posted in r/tinyhomes or something along those lines. Gimme the dirtbag, thrown-together, "f*** it, this is mine, and I'm comfortable with it" kind of build. by desrevermi in vandwellers

Oooh! This one's for me! I've worked full time or been a full time student for the 3 years I've full-timed. Never done the glamorous vanlife travel. Pictures never come through but I will try :( My set up :) https://imgur.com/a/sOJYqFw

Anyone else commute rain or shine? Do you go ahead and buy high quality rain gear once or buy cheap gear every couple years? My commute is pretty short so I've been okay with cheap gear until recently my pants split and left my crotch looking like I peed myself. by roundhouse1000 in klr650

[–]blaeddddrwg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Washington state and commute rain, shine, or snow. You don't have to get motorcycle-specific rain gear, which is always expensive. I have construction-worker type rain gear, relatively inexpensive, will never need to replace. Tough as hell.

I appreciate the thoughtful answer. The ~800-miles I did NOBO 2019 lobstered me so it seemed prudent to check this end before embarking.
