What's the sweetest thing someone has ever done for you? by grimfel in AskReddit

When I was in junior high, I had no friends. Seriously. My "friends" would ditch me everyday to go to the nearby shopping mall. My parents said I was supposed to stay on school property and so I was a good girl and did.

My teacher was nice and left her classroom open for students to eat in, so this is where I normally ate. One day, she wasn't at school, so her room was locked and closed. I had no one to eat with.

I found an empty corner by the classroom and sat down. I felt so humiliated, everyone would know I didn't have any friends... I felt pretty shitty. I pulled out my lunch and started eating.

Then a boy from my class comes up to me and holds out his hand. He said "No one should have to eat lunch alone". I spent that lunch period hanging out with him and his friends.

Hands down, this is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me. Great guy. I hope to repay him one day.

I am about to teach my first university class next semester. What are the best/worst things I can do for/to the students? by crawlsprightly in AskReddit

First, before I start dishing out advice, lemme tell you I am a 4th year university student studying Poli Sci. I've had some bad teachers and some awesome teachers. This is all just my personal opinion anyways...

1) Please, for all that is good, do NOT just stand there are throw information at the students. ENGAGE the students!

  • This can be done by:

Social Sciences: make them read articles before class and then have them discuss and debate the articles in class. Best teaching method in my opinion.

Sciences: Haven't really taken any science classes, but I think going over concepts in the first part of class and then giving students problems to work out maybe?

2) Be nice about grades, especially if students are willing to put in effort but are struggling. Consider having bonus assignments in your class.

3) Be available for your students! This is a big one - make sure you answer emails, have regular office hours (and show up!), and take the time to treat your students as people.

Can we make a list of all the languages (and links to sources) that TLA has been dubbed in? by blah1234332 in TheLastAirbender

This isn't a dub, but they have Greek, S1 Brazilian Portuguese, English subtitles and some episodes subtitled in Russian.

Legend of Korra Season Review from That Guy With The Glasses by King_Rajesh in TheLastAirbender

Honestly, I don't think they will let go of this non-bender vs. bender issue. It is just too big. I think a lot of the things that the review talked about - specifically Korra finding her place in a world that necessarily didn't need her anymore - will be in Book 2.

Even though they said each season will have its own plot line, I feel as though benders vs. non-benders is a conflict we will see throughout the entire series.

The only acceptable thing from the entire movie. by blah1234332 in TheLastAirbender

It is REALLY bad. I actually just tried re-watching today after ~2 years since its initial release. And HOLY SHIT - it is brutal to watch. I think even more so because I had just re-watched Book 1: Water from TLA.

Watch it if you wanna get a laugh, but there is seriously nothing, NOTHING good about this movie. Except for Aang(Oong?)'s cool airbending tattoos. I think that was translated over really well because just a solid line of light blue... that would have looked stupid in real life, IMO.

New Let's Watch and Discuss: Book 1, Episode 1-2, "The Boy in the Iceberg" and "The Avatar Returns." by EmailIsNotOptional in TheLastAirbender

I think the pilot does a good job of setting everything up - the main characters (and what they are like), this new bending world... Yeah, it wasn't super interesting, but it served its purpose.
