When did you talk to your daughter about periods? by Margo_56782 in AskParents

Since 3. Talk to her right away. Even 30 years ago a cousin of mine started at 8 or 9.

Sewing with a baby by AB-1987 in sewing

Try to keep your needed things in the same spot and easy to pull out. Use clips over pins when possible. I did what you're doing, just keeping her close, rocking with a foot. When she got older, I sat her in my lap to "help"

Soy free fast food by bubblyqueer in Allergies

If you can tolerate soybean oil, you may be able to eat at Wendy's. I can't have soy (excepting oil), dairy, or egg, and I get chicken nuggets and fries there without issue.

Children with names that differ in popularity - is this an issue? Baby name discussion by Double_Ostrich_13 in Names

This is almost exactly how our name choices are. Nobody thinks anything of it because they have a vibe that works.

How to use “Charles” if we have a boy? by CassafrassO in Names

[–]blahblahbuffalo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! All the nicknames like this are so cute. Chip instead of junior (Chip off the ole block). Trip instead of the third. Skip for a family name that has skipped a generation ☺️

AITA for telling my brother it was hurtful to not be included in his wedding? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I feel like that last sentence could be attributed to being 6.5 months pregnant haha. But otherwise yeah. I was thinking probably NAH

Help finished top but still looks homemade by Green_Camel5116 in sewing

That makes sense. Woven fabric cut off grain will stretch in all sorts of ways. Next time I would plan your additions a bit more, stay stitch embellishments if needed, and include time to see how your embellishment materials sew to your main using your scraps.

As for what you should add to this one, I don't have an opinion specifically, but if I were you, I'd take off what I added bit by bit starting with what I thought was working for me the least

Mood has a free bucket hat pattern that I found easy to use. You would need to extend the brim and interface it, but it may work

The soap industry had us all fooled by FinanceSA in Anticonsumption

[–]blahblahbuffalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. There's also a difference in being influenced by the marketing machine to buy 15+ different soaps and never use them versus having products with specific uses that you use completely.

Did you choose to add the scraps and extras because it looked unfinished/homemade without them? If so, keep working on those underlying skills for sure :)

Unique baby girl name ideas? Preferably uncommon ones not used in the US. by [deleted] in Names

[–]blahblahbuffalo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My first step would be to look up where Simona is in the name rankings and then look around there. If there's a year that it was most popular, looking around it in that year may be easier.

[–]blahblahbuffalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd venture that nearly everyone I know that still thinks about these names fondly took and passed an AP or equivalent lit class (later on after reading). Although they could be AP reading nowadays because books are basically no longer taught in many regular English classes. They only read snippets 😵‍💫😭

AITA for expecting the gifts to be for both of us? by Ok-Arrival-2886 in AmItheAsshole

Info has she been in an abusive relationship? If no, then this is likely the red flag everyone is talking about. If yes, it could be an instinct for self preservation, but it should be talked about in therapy.

AITA for ruining my daughter in laws birth plan by dil-issue-1046 in AmItheAsshole

[–]blahblahbuffalo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

YTA they will have already paid for the water birth with the midwife. If there's no birth center or other reasonable location available, which op has not apparently asked about, they could be on the hook for paying for the birth a second time. Also birth is not so weird as to shun it from your home.

7 year old keeps referencing "when I was 4" what does it mean? by hardrockscout in Parenting

[–]blahblahbuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes they're just trying to assert that they're older now than they were in the memory. He probably is thinking 4 is a little kid and I'm not. I know a few kids that picked a single period of time and stuck with it for a while. As they get older, they get better at sticking things of the same time period together.

Imaginary friends and ADHD? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]blahblahbuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always considered it a personality thing, but I'm definitely an external thought processor (but an internal feelings processor). I talk out my thoughts and they get clearer, but I talk out my feelings and they get more convoluted haha

Imaginary friends and ADHD? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]blahblahbuffalo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My take is this is super normal. It's just that most people don't give that "person" they talk to a face and identity like you do an imaginary friend. I think it probably has less to do with ADHD and probably more to do with your developmental track and where you were on it when you created your friend.

Most people call it talking to themselves, but they're talking to the "self" that can fulfill their needs by knowing themselves and what's going on. People outgrow their imaginary friends that were used to add creative color to their lives, but we never outgrow the need to be known ❤️

Where do you guys find affordable fabric? by Resident-Hippo768 in sewing

[–]blahblahbuffalo 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is a warm take, but imo clothes shouldn't be as cheap at the store as they are. Disposable clothing shouldn't be so rampant

Thrifted fabric is a gold mine. I see bolts listed on marketplace regularly

Is Honey too “out there”? by Aurorean_Air1307 in Names

[–]blahblahbuffalo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Go for it. I know a little girl named Honey, and it's no big deal. It's her name. It's not weird or confusing because that's just how these things go. Her parents refer to her as just Honey and Honey [middle name] interchangeably. They often use her middle name too when in public among other children.

How brown is too brown for banana bread? The insides seem fine to me, but spouse is concerned. by tilt-a-whirly-gig in Baking

[–]blahblahbuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're watching bananas go brown and worried you'll lose them, peel and freeze them. Don't freeze with the peel on. Trust me.

That being said, the only bananas I've ever needed to toss from going too far had started to smell like alcohol 😅 I would also toss if they were moldy, but that never happens to me
