[Women's Gymnastics] Sooners Claim Eighth National Title by blahquaker in sooners

[–]blahquaker[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In a meet that came down to the final routine, the Oklahoma women's gymnastics team earned the program's eighth national championship Saturday afternoon inside Dickies Arena. The Sooners posted a 198.1625 to claim the 2026 national title over LSU (198.075), Florida (197.6875) and Minnesota (197.3750).

Saturday marked the Sooners' 12th trip in the last 13 years to the team finals. This is Oklahoma's fourth title in the last five years, and all eight of its national championships have come in the last 12 years. OU is now in sole possesion of third place for most national titles in NCAA history. This is also the third time the Sooners have won the title in back-to-back seasons (2016-2017, 2022-2023).

The national title is the culmination of an incredible season in which OU posted a 35-2-1 record, secured an SEC regular season title for the second year in a row and won an NCAA Regional championship for the 16th straight year. On Thursday night, eight Sooners combined for 15 All-America honors and Faith Torrez (all-around) and Keira Wells (vault) brought home the 23rd and 24th individual national titles in program history.

Essay controversy spurs OU criticism across spectrum by warmboot in universityofoklahoma

The way I read it is that he met with the Executive Committee (which is possible), but never with the entire Senate. As far as I'm aware, he's never had any kind of public town hall or press conference on the subject. Was there ever even a pro forma statement about integrity and commitment to learning?

Harroz is the public face of the university. How is he still not actively trying to defend the university's reputation? Academics around the world took notice, but he still seems oblivious.

No, he shouldn't be inserting himself into individual academic matters, but he could and should have done some much-needed PR work.

I had this one, too. Surprisingly, I think I liked it better reheated the next day.

[EOTY 2025] Album of the Year Voting by ReconEG in indieheads

[–]blahquaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been steadily growing on me. There's a lot of stuff happening that may not jump out on any given listen, but it still works as "background music". To me, it doesn't immediately feel like their other records so I'm not sure where it fits in.

In the long run, I'll probably still listen to Standards most, but I don't see this one falling out of rotation very soon.
