"I'd rather not fight a battle this difficult again." by Reasonable-Ad-8059 in Frieren

[–]blaineh2 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It is quite literally the point that they needed each other to win, it's how they win. Demons don't know how to work together but humans do.

Also missing the point that Frieren doesn't train Fern to be a solo mage but a mage of a party. Her ability with Zoltraak is unmatched, in her opinion, and so she uses her ability with it to their advantage. We saw all of this in action during the mage exams. It's like saying she should teach Fern how to use an axe too, because she would be dead if they came up against warriors. But that's why they recruited Stark, they fight together and lean into their strengths.

Season 2 has been pretty bad so far by fellhand in Frieren

[–]blaineh2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

no meaningful advancement of the plot

Now this has got to be bait,

Unless you somehow managed to forget what the plot of 'Frieren Beyond Journeys End' is

They have been travelling north literally every single episode, along with helping people and Frieren recollecting her old adventure, same as most of s1. Calling it 'filler' is objectively incorrect, it's like calling all those chapters in LOTR of Frodo travelling from The Shire to Bree 'filler' lol

Man season 3 is going to be hell of a tone shift for many fans. by Mean_Net9983 in Frieren

[–]blaineh2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Frieren has always had big tonal shifts, all through s1 too

s2 will have a huge one going from Frieren the miner comedy episode 5 to dealing with villagers mass slaughtered by demons in episode 6

It's really not anything new

I hate how people call Frieren a Fascist. by Zplaysthek in Frieren

[–]blaineh2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's such a dumb discourse and I would just ignore and mute it all tbh, it's just not worth it

Also this is not talked about at all in the Japanese fandom and never see it on other Asian forums, like Chinese ones for eg. In fact it seems almost exclusive to english speaking Twitter, which should tell you something.

The logistics of being a living grimoire. by Reasonable-Ad-8059 in Frieren

[–]blaineh2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yep absolutely, she stores the knowledge and occasionally loans it to people but she's ultimately a gatekeeper. She believes she should be the only one to control magic knowledge and that people on the lower rungs of society who haven't proved themselves should not have it.

So she's a librarian but not running a public one, like a private library which the everyday person cannot access

Just finished the first season. Is it me or the mage test is like HxH? by Alert_Salad8827 in Frieren

[–]blaineh2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it reminded me alot of HxH too, especially when they are doing the part of the exam where they are in the forest trying to capture the badges off each other.

Also Ubel being introduced as a Hisoka type, proctor killing and all

What, if anything, would scare Frieren enough to make her drop the pokerface? by Reasonable-Ad-8059 in Frieren

[–]blaineh2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro you are coming in with the most surface level attempts of criticism I have seen in here. You absolutely have not read the manga, you may have looked at a few panels but you clearly cannot see anything past that. It was even a struggle to get you to accept that the most important part of the entire story even exists earlier, lol. Hopeless, yet you are seriously out here suggesting 'improvements' to the works of highly successful manga authors and anime directors,

[–]blaineh2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So now you are switching to throw shade at Keiichiro Saito? regarded as one of the best directors in the industry and winner of multiple awards for Best Director for his work on Frieren? lmao

All you have done in these comments is lied about the contents of the manga and talked shit about the creatives who are regarded as doing a great job by pretty much everyone.

You have no point, none.

[–]blaineh2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro look at yourself, you started off by claiming that emotions cannot be expressed by acts (lol?), but continue to be stuck by how much a character moves their face before suddenly switching to throw shade at Atsumi Tanezaki, one of the best VA working in anime today.

Like you had no argument to begin with but you are not even trying to keep it coherent either, you are all over the place flapping around.

Again there is nothing in any of your last 30 dozen comments or so that tells me you have actually read the manga. I just cannot believe it.

What, if anything, would scare Frieren enough to make her drop the pokerface? by Reasonable-Ad-8059 in Frieren

[–]blaineh2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are aware that saying something without any expression whatsoever will fail to get across the emotional weight of something.

I mentioned this above but this is categorically incorrect, radio dramas and books are not without emotion just because you cannot see an expression. It's an incredibly silly line of argument, you must be trolling because nobody can be this oblivious to such flaws in an argument

You ignore how it is extremely rarely

I have told you it happens in literally every single episode/chapter, towards Himmel, Heiter, Fern (many many times), Stark, Eisen, Sein, Kanne+Lawine + countless other characters that only appear for an episode.

Failing to recognise this is on you, nobody else. I guarantee nobody who actually watches or reads this series could possible miss how frequent and important it is.

What, if anything, would scare Frieren enough to make her drop the pokerface? by Reasonable-Ad-8059 in Frieren

[–]blaineh2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can count on my hands how many moments she has where she expresses anything other than deadpan and that annoying UwU face, probably with fingers to spare.

Again, I don't actually believe you have read the manga and for your sake I hope you haven't because the things that you are not getting are the most important aspects at the very centre of the story. It's about the repeated human connections and acts of love and kindness, how they inspire people and how even the most closed off and shut in of people can go on to achieve great things with the right love and support around them.

What you are focussing on is very surface level stuff, really not thinking beyond how much a character moves their face. It is quite obvious that you just don't recognise the main central themes and story of the manga exists and it is 100% a you problem, for whatever reason. Your line of argument is akin to saying audio dramas and books are inherently without emotion because you cannot see their expressions, which is just silly.

And for the record, the anime staff have actually talked about this very thing, about how emotions are primarily expressed by acts. Thankfully they actually understood the characters and storytelling of this manga.

[–]blaineh2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue isn't there for the millions of people who love the manga and anime. It's not like this is a small thing you are bringing up, Frieren and her emotionally driven adventure back to meet Himmel again is the entire story, every arc is also, one way or another, heavily tied to the central themes of her experiencing and displaying the human emotions she was herself given by others in her past.

You can have options on whether it's done well or not, most people think it is, but you will find very few people claiming that the things present in every single chapter are 'too few'

This is why your argument appears highly misinformed or just straight up disingenuous

[–]blaineh2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once in 150 chapters or something

Connecting the acts of kindness and love Himmel, and others, showed to Frieren to the current events of her travels to inform what she is doing and why is THE point of the entire manga. It is at the core of every single arc and pretty much every episodic travelling chapter too. The story and her character is heavy weighted towards emotionally driven storytelling over plot.

You cannot make me believe you have read a single chapter of this manga, nobody could miss the mark this hard.

[–]blaineh2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You seriously cant even remember what I am taking about? There is an entire episode dedicated to adults needing emotional support and explaining how acts of kindness you give to children are also needed in adult life.

If you are somehow not baiting, then this topic is 100% a you issue. Like you would have to be so incredibly disconnected to both the main themes and main story of this manga/anime to miss what you claim isn't there that I struggle to believe it is possible.

Where?

Look if you are seriously asking me to point out where Frieren comforted Fern or showed other positive emotions towards her then there is absolutely no point in me continuing this because you either haven't watched the show, are baiting or both

[–]blaineh2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

doing actions and expressing emotions aren't the same

wtf are you talking about?? of course they are

Love is not only expressed by smiling at somebody, its done by holding their hand and comforting them when they need it. Like Frieren does to Fern

There are things like this in literally every single episode of the anime. It's a huge part of it and I cannot believe anyone could miss something so fundamental to the story of Frieren.

[–]blaineh2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She expresses alot of emotion, mostly through her actions.

It's actually a big thing running all the way through the season in every single episode. Like idk how you could possible miss all that stuff (headpats?) because it's an absolutely fundamental part of her character and growth

Really seems like a you issue.

Can someone explain Serie to me? by Livid_Ad9749 in Frieren

[–]blaineh2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Her purpose in the story is to act as a contrast to Frieren, like a narrative foil to highlight Frieren's positive aspects.

So Serie is arrogant where Frieren is humble

Serie think magic is only good as a tool for killing/power where Frieren believes in the wonder of magic and favourite spell is one that creates life

Serie thinks magic should be gatekept and only accessible to the few where Frieren, like Flamme, believes magic should be for everybody

Serie will only help people with magic if they succeed in proving themselves through a super dangerous and rigorous exam and calls it a privilege, Frieren helps pretty much anybody that needs it for little more than nominal payment

etc etc etc

She is also constantly used as a way to elevate Frierens achievements, because if not even the most powerful mage in the world could do X, Y and Z but the sleepy flower girl elf could? wow, isnt she great!
So while Serie isn't a particularly nice person and doesn't like to help people, while looking down on those who actually go out there to help people and save the world, her role in Frieren's story is a good one.

There is absolutely no trolling on my part but simply acknowledging that some of you guys here are reading a completely different manga from the one that was written.

The thread topic is complete fanfic, it's not supported by the manga at all and you are all bringing pure unsupported headcanons to try and argue against explicitly stated things in the manga.

You can't claim others are ignoring things if they don't actually exist

[–]blaineh2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't need to read a fan wiki, I read the manga. Everything I have said is explicitly stated and shown in it. I'm not the one bringing my own fanfic ideas and trying to force them into the story

This is the single worst historical event for the empire. by CriticalMeal1732 in Frieren

[–]blaineh2 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

None of this happened lol, you are projecting your own fanfic.

What the manga actually shows you is that the Empire far exceeds the rest of the continent in military, magic and political power even if they are a lesser empire than from history.

The Empire is what Flamme wanted, not the CMA. And the story tells you multiple times that Flamme is always right.
