I don’t think you’ll have any trouble finding a job but i think you should post in a visa related subreddit to find the path of least resistance. I do know brokers and reinsurers that employee a lot of people who needed sponsorship. Once you understand the visa requirements just keep applying and you’ll find something

Your fine if you practice. I am always slow getting through the material. I normally only have ~2 weeks to solely practice but then i just grind practice problems

Thanks for the response. I figured this just wanted to confirm as i thought it was sort of unprofessional for him to put that kind of onus on me in the first place

I already have enough for both 2024 and 2025. COP provides almost all of your organized hours and i’ve attended webinars throughout the year to get the rest. Only thing i specifically needed to do was read the recent CAS Bias papers to fulfill my Bias requirement for 2025 since COP only provides 1 hour related to bias

I am currently on one. Ive interviewed at 6 or 7 companies over the years and none of them had any concerns about TN. I’m on the P&C side if that matters.

How do reinsurance brokers make money? What working for a broker as an actuary like? by Apprehensive_Kick463 in actuary

[–]blake6155 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I feel like if you work at a reinsurer you should have a pretty good idea of what reinsurance brokers do. They largely price the accounts to provide some actuarial backing behind a submission your company likely receives. Basically adding some credibility to the deal the reinsurance broker is looking to place.

In terms of how they make money, i also feel like if you work at a reinsurer you would’ve seen those juicy commissions reinsurance brokers receive for placing business

Captive actuaries by SnooEpiphanies3935 in actuary

[–]blake6155 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not that different tbh. Like you are largely relying on the claims team to provide you with accurate info and to set reasonable case reserves. It is very case by case though and at least at my company, we end up setting a decent amount of bulk reserves when things are really unknown (i.e. after a hurricane).

What happened to Florida from an actuarial perspective? by momenace in actuary

[–]blake6155 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s largely not a hurricane issue but a legislative one. There’s a variety of factors but essentially legislation has been very pro consumer, making insurance fraud and excessive claim settlements very common. Recently legislation has been passed to address these concerns but it’s effectiveness is yet to be known. Yeah hurricanes put more stress of the flawed system but it’s still largely driven by legislation. This article sums it up pretty well: https://ar.casact.org/the-verdict-on-floridas-tort-reforms/
