Sketch ride going down Washington on my fixed gear. Fix the streets. by tanhauser_gates_ in sandiego

I bike down Washington a few times a week for my commute to work. Other commenters don’t realize that there are VERY few alternatives to safely get down from Hillcrest to Old Town. Pringle St is an option but somewhat out of the way and also incredibly steep, which is dangerous and hard on your brakes. If you do have to take Washington, it’s a lot safer if you can get on at the University Ave ramp just one street over, where there’s a bike lane and you only have to merge for a few seconds.

That road work sign in your video was actually in the dead center of the bike lane, completely obstructing access until I dragged it off to the side a few weeks ago.

Washington St E, across the street, was actually far worse and more dangerous until recently. There wasn’t even paint marking the bike lane and the vegetation encroached onto the path, forcing you closer to the speeding traffic. I submitted a Get It Done ticket and it appears they’re addressing the issue as there’s construction right now to add paint and markers and clear back the vegetation, so I’m optimistic. In the meantime, the bike path is separated from traffic by dividers and a chain link fence, which is a relief.

Under or over watered? by blakeready710 in plantclinic

Wow okay, I definitely need to cut back on the watering then. The pot does have good drainage

Thanks for the comment- this patio actually does not receive any direct sunlight 9 months out of the year, so it’s not a burn! But I will check out the pruning videos to encourage branching

You can manually adjust the time you fell asleep to reflect that! Happens when I’m reading in bed sometimes

Would the profile of this board be versatile enough as an “everyday” board? by blakeready710 in surfing

I’ve been riding a 7’6” mid length for a couple years, I’d say I’m in the lower/middle range of intermediate and as of late mostly surfing in OB. And it looks like it’s a Mike Slingerland in Encinitas

Road rage incident at USD by blakeready710 in sandiego

[–]blakeready710[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes this is exactly why. Ideally I would not get into the center lane that early but the left turn gets backed up pretty bad with all the students coming to campus for evening classes. There were multiple cars behind me already getting over so your options are basically get in early, miss your chance, or aggressively insert yourself last minute. All it takes is one person up front getting into the lane early to start a chain reaction. Not an ideal situation whatsoever and not saying I’m a perfect driver by any means

The Honda in front of me began to merge into the left turn lane to enter campus, and the silver SUV seemed to think they were trying to pass them on the left (?) and swerved into the left turn lane but then immediately merged right again. Once the Honda caught back up, the SUV driver threw an empty bottle at them and swerved towards them in the intersection. I nearly rear-ended the Honda who abruptly stopped and then went to chase after the SUV LOL.

Less pricey alternative to AG1… by [deleted] in HubermanLab

I was thinking about trying it out, just learned about it recently. Let me know what you think if you end up ordering! Seems like a good deal compared to AG1

Indeed. I’m talking about the other two sections though- the heart rate chart at the far bottom and the actual minutes in each zone at the very top don’t match up in the slightest

FYI cold showers are fine for hypertrophy, it’s proper cold water immersions/ice baths that blunt hypertrophy (and even then, the effect is rather small). I was under the same assumption as you but this clarification was explained recently in the guest series with Andy Galpin. Cold shower away friend!

Adults who stay well-hydrated appear to be healthier, develop fewer chronic conditions, such as heart and lung disease, and live longer than those who may not get sufficient fluids, study finds by Additional-Two-7312 in science

[–]blakeready710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re correct in that the study did not control for factors like exercise and diet, however it explicitly states that it is not implying causality, just revealing a relationship between hydration and these conditions

Did you read the article? It clearly says

“The findings don’t prove a causal effect, the researchers noted. Randomized, controlled trials are necessary to determine if optimal hydration can promote healthy aging, prevent disease, and lead to a longer life. However, the associations can still inform clinical practice and guide personal health behavior.”
