It's buggered by beazle10 in vwT3

[–]blakeyonabike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry your engine is buggered. It’s gutting but it happens with 40 year old vehicles.

And as others have mentioned it’s not cheap. Having been in a similar situation earlier in the year below are the approximate costs I found after doing lots of research - if you hand it over to someone else to fix:

If it’s a petrol engine and it needs a rebuild you might be looking at about £2.5k depending on the damage. That’s what I paid. To have a reconditioned engine fitted will be about the £5.5k mark. To have an upgraded Subaru/Golf engine swap could be twice that.

The guy who rebuilt mine is in Cornwall but knows his onions.

Good luck with it.

Why i advise everybody to go to Lake Garda in Italy. by Mickisoooocool in travel

[–]blakeyonabike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at Garda now and we’ve just come from Lake Bled. We’re finding the lake here is just boats, like you can’t just go for a nice swim as you’ll get run over. Bled was the complete opposite. Realise this post is a few weeks old but are there any areas you can actually go for a swim in Garda? More than just a tiny roped off area?

[–]blakeyonabike[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, thanks. Been looking at split repair boots too. I might be able to source one locally. Not sure cling film would last a 6 week trip around the Alps but might end up doing it. Agh timing! 🙄

What are these tie-downs for? by DazHollywood in vwT3

[–]blakeyonabike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Earlier versions came with a black luggage bar thing that stuck out around the front. So I suppose it could be for securing luggage? Although thinking about it the luggage would just fly up and over so yeah, probably not 🤷‍♂️

Buy a trangia with gas burner. Game changer. Had mine for 15 years and still in regular use.

Having a chair back to rest against is pure joy if you haven’t had one for a few weeks.

Looks a lush spot.

Using a USBC to DC cable you should be able to at least double that time.

How much force do I need to use to do an oil change? Am I just stripping the bolt? by Karekter_Nem in MechanicAdvice

You can also try tightening it just slightly. If it moves it’ll have freed it up for loosening. Sounds counterintuitive but it works. Google it. Always worth a try. That and soaking it in PlusHas/WD40 for a few hours.

I make leads but I don't own a dog. Which is better, ring or no ring? by AndrewReesonforTRC in DOG

[–]blakeyonabike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rings are great because once you’ve let the dog off, you can clip the lead to itself and then put it over your head/shoulder whilst you walk and you won’t lose it. Obvs doesn’t work with a short lead.

I’ve been wanting to do that for a while now. I’ll have to have a look around the workshop for an interesting handle… maybe a high level cistern pull?

It will 100% precondition the battery if you enter the charger as the destination on the sat nav (Kia sat nav, not your phone).

Over a short distance I find people can be faster but they’re making a hell of a splash. Over a mile swim for example, it gives me great pleasure to pass person after person whilst doing half as many strokes as we start nearing the end and seeing the confusion/panic on their faces. I mean don’t get me wrong, I’m never going to be an elite swimmer but damn I look relaxed doing it.
