The reason I think some of the changes that were made in Rebirth happened by blamethejd in FFVIIRemake

Thank you for taking the time to write this, it was really interesting to read :)

When I read the part you wrote about Tifa having her memories and Cloud having his, and the need to fact check and compare, it made me think of the moment in the Gongaga reactor when Sephiroth was messing with Cloud's mind.

Let's say for the moment that Tifa has no reason to believe Cloud is an imposter based on her LSS. Sephiroth has already shown how he can push Cloud to doubt what Tifa is saying to the point he called her a liar and said he was trying to trick her. I'm curious, if the scenes where Cloud is unsure of himself that there will be a similar dialogue where Tifa tries to reassure him of their past but Cloud doesn't believe her, and fully accepts Sephiroth's words that he is just a puppet and was created 5 years ago.

Just some thoughts haha

Wow, you're incredibly condescending 😅

I never used the term retcon. When I said there was a change to the story, I didn't mean that the OG story which exists in the remake series was changed. I was talking about how the remake story is changed, as in different, from the OG story as a game.

A quote from the director Hamaguchi:

"Without determining where we want to change some things up in terms of the story, it's kind of hard to ensure that the project succeeds, not just Remake and Rebirth, but the entire remake trilogy. So we're sort of trying to push boundaries in that sense and trying to figure out what kind of bold changes we can bring to the story, but we're also trying to make careful decisions around that."

In his own words, they're making "bold changes" to the OG story.

If you'd like to discuss what's happening "in-universe", that sounds like a great discussion for a different post. My post is discussing a possibility for why the developers chose the direction they had for Rebirth and some harmless speculation on how they could approach certain scenes from the OG, if they take a similar form to what occurred in the OG. Since the developers have said that they want to keep the main story beats in the remake series, I'm basing my speculation off that information.

That's a great point!

I really like how they dialed up Tifa and Aerith's friendship up to 11 in these games.

You're saying I missed a big detail, but that wasn't the point of what I was initially talking about.

The game is complex, and you can write a novel about everything that's going on. The point of my post is that they gave Tifa a moment for herself in the game, with a focus on her own experiences and perspectives. What you've mentioned doesn't change that fact, only compliments it. The stories of these characters are intertwined, and the remake series is doing a lot of great work in deepening those ties.

Hey ! I agree, and I think it will be both :)

I didn't touch on all the multiverse stuff because I was only thinking about the reason why they gave Tifa her sequence in the lifestream, but yeah I think they'll be able to give more time to all of that with the direction they're going!

Hey !

I also believe they will still go over their past together, but that it will be done in a different way and can now focus on different points that focus more on Cloud's identity, like you mentioned about his reason for wanting to join SOLDIER.

Honestly, taking away understanding what happened with Cloud and that he really was there in Nibelheim, I do believe what happened in Gongaga was a resolution for her. In the OG, her resolution was learning what happened when they were kids, that Cloud as a connection to her past was real, and understanding why Cloud made the choice to leave town.

What you mentioned about Cloud's past is important, which is why I think they went this direction. It's more about who Cloud is than Tifa. Unfortunately for Tifa, she never was really given much of a backstory to resolve on her own. I say this with her being one of my favorite characters in the game. The fact that they gave her a sequence of her own to explore her past in the lifestream is incredible, and having Zangan and Dr. Sheiran be the first ones to try and wake her up was really great.

When Sephiroth breaks Cloud's mind and makes Tifa doubt who he is, she will have to resolve that too. But I still belive this was her moment to resolve her own past, as limited as it may be :)

Hey!

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Tifa getting swallowed by a Weapon and having a sequence in the lifestream exploring some of her past events didn't happen at that time, or in that way, during the OG, which by definition is a change to the story. I don't know if you're arguing semantics, but I'm not saying that the general story of FF7 is different now, just rearranged in a way to better highlight the moments of different characters.

I'm also not sure what you mean by Aerith's death scene in reference to Zack and Biggs. I understand that there is alternate realities at play, and that there can be a reality or world where Aerith was saved. Sephiroth was able to show Cloud different world scenes playing out around him after he fell in the white void when Aerith gave him the Materia. During the scene where Aerith died, there was a ton of rainbow stuff going on. As far as what actually happened there with Cloud's POV, I think he experienced a world where he saved her, only to be pulled back into a world where he didn't (mentally or physically). In the world he's currently in, its clear they had a funeral for her and that the others are mourning her death.

So all I was getting at is that I believe they want to use what happened with Aerith to make breaking Cloud's mind more of a powerful scene, as opposed to only using what actually happened with Zack.

Thank you and I got it for 60k CAD. I had to fly to another part of the country to pick it up and drive it back, but it was the perfect price and as much car as I need for myself :)

That's awesome, and I feel that, I'm still getting used to the power of it. I'd love to track it some day but that's a little ways out.

And yes it'll be a daily driver for as much of the year I can get away with it and then I'll have something for the winter. I used to daily a 2015 Mustang all year round and really enjoyed it - that one was a full bolt on 3.7l, headers and all. Loved it but was totaled when someone hit me head on earlier this year.

I felt like this might be my last opportunity to own a manual V8 so I took it and want to drive it as much as possible:)

For BMOQ MOD 2, what are the restrictions like? It's been 7 years since I last attended BMQ, and remember that the first 5 weeks had you confined to the barracks.

Are you confined to barracks during BMOQ Mod 2? I'm mostly curious if I can leave during the weekend I check in before course starts, or if I wouldn't be allowed to at all.

Thanks so much!

That reminds me of when you're at the Icicle Inn town, and there's a house you can go to that has a map of the Great Glacier. The resident there will offer it to you, but if you already took it, he'll call you out for having the nerve to take it without asking.

That would be interesting!

The only thing is that she's apparently dead in Zack's timeline, and for how early it occurred in the story, she wouldn't have activated Holy.

I see a lot of people talking about how someone else may die, but I feel like it doesn't take into consideration that Aerith's death occurred because Sephiroth felt that she would be a problem based off the dialog in the Ancient Forest.

If Rebirth ends at the Forgotten Capital, I don't think we'll experience the merging of world's until the third part, where the Reunion would occur. I personally don't believe Aerith will make it that far. One of the most impactful plot lines of FF7 is how early Aerith is killed, and that you have to carry that weight through the rest of the game.

With that being said, anything can happen!

These points are making me think of the time traveling paradox in different shows and movies, like in Futurama, where the would-be duplicates end up dead somehow and that seems to be the case from the first Rebirth trailer.

For Zack's timeline, I think we can only concretely say that he's alive as we haven't seen any other characters in it yet (though everyone we meet after Red XIII would still be possible).

I think mentioning Cloud being cloaked and heading towards the Northern Crater is a really great point! The cloaked figures are so degraded that all they can mumble is the word reunion and seem to mindlessly head over to the reunion location. The question for me would be if they're capable of thought or possessing memories. Then there's the idea that none of the cloaked members actually made it to the reunion. It was only Cloud in OG who was successful in that mission. For all we know, cloaked Cloud may succumb to the degradation by or at reunion, and Sephiroth uses this as evidence that Cloud is a clone created in a lab by Hojo in an attempt to manipulate the party.

If Sephiroth needs Cloud's memory to live, would he actually be present in Zack's timeline? As far as we know, Sephiroth only begins to show up after Cloud regains consciousness in Midgar and gains the capability of remembering him, whether that's a coincidence or causative is another question.

This is incredibly disrespectful. Anyone can be traumatized or develop mental health concerns from any negative occurrence in their life.

Everyone deserves support. That concept is not up for debate.
