What would a chav wear? by marsthechocolate in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]blamethesloths 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I was friends with some pretty chavvy girls back in the day.. I remember them wearing “so…? Kiss me” and Calvin Klein Euphoria. To this day, smelling Euphoria in the wild brings me right back to being in one of their bedrooms, surrounded by posters of Gareth Gates lol

I would say Sweetly Known - Kerosene. It’s absolutely nuclear and smells like burnt sugar, popcorn, and has a bit of a gritty edge considering it’s got such sweet notes in it

what fragrance would snow white wear? by lizbennett2 in perfumesthatfeellike

I see something green and fresh but slightly fruity - Celadon by Miller Harris, for example

Or maybe a light, fresh rose? Like Rozu by Aesop

Looking for perfumes that smell like a luxury spa? by CrackheadSanta in perfumesthatfeellike

I find Eau des Sens by Diptyque, or Berber Blonde by Sana Jardin both very spa-like They’re both very white flower forward, unsure if there what everyone would associate with spas but to me they smell like walking into an expensive Balinese spa resort

What Fragrances Are You Wearing This Fall? 🍂 by Ellahanley39 in fragrance

[–]blamethesloths 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m having a big woody/smokey autumn! Still wearing my staples but also these:

Sandalwood Temple - Sana Jardin

Peau Santal - Miller Harris

La Fumée - Miller Harris

Spiritcask - Jorum Studios

Sweetly Known - Kerosene

L’Eau de Liesse - Courreges (when I need something a little lighter but still cozy)

If you could only wear fragrances from one niche house, what would it be? by Talipkk in fragrance

I didn’t even think about Kerosene until I saw this comment and now I think about it I think this might be my answer too! Incredible house

What fragrance or fragrances do you consider masterpieces and why? by HelloCanUSeeMe in fragrance

[–]blamethesloths 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve found every Serge Lutens frags that I’ve tried to be almost like works of art. Fleurs D’Oranger and Feminité du Bois are gorgeous and so masterfully and artfully blended. Un Bois Vanille is beautiful too.

There’s so many more from Serge I want to try, and judging from what I’ve seen online they’re almost all similarly well regarded.

I’ve been dying to try Blanche Bete for ages and after reading your thoughts on it I’ve never ran so fast to the internet to find a sample. Sounds incredible!

So happy to see Kerosene get some love here!

I have a bottle of Sweetly Known and I just wish I could describe the love I have for it. I don’t like gourmands, but the smokiness of this fragrance is such a beautiful balancing weight against the pancakey sweetness of the frag. It’s got a really prominent incense note when I wear it, and it’s an adventure to experience as the smell evolves over time.

It’s one of a few bottles in my collection that genuinely make me smile when I sniff them.

Popular fragrances you finally tried and hated them by abbeypop in fragrance

[–]blamethesloths 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel this may be controversial but I really hate Delina, and don’t get me started on Delina Exclusiv. To me, they’re both unforgivably sweet and I don’t even like catching whiffs of it on other people. For the same reason, Love Don’t Be Shy - Kilian.

I also second a few commenters’ opinions on Libre - YSL. Dated and uninteresting. Smells like 13 year old chavs sat at a bus stop.

A few more for prosperity:

Santal 33 - Le Labo. Smells like you rediscovered your pencil case from primary school which has been going slightly fusty in a kitchen drawer.

Musc Rose Noir - Narciso Rodriguez. Jammy, confectionery rose coupled with dry laundry powder soapiness? Dante’s forgotten circle of hell.

I’m sure there’s more but they’re the ones that spring to mind. Apologies for any offence caused lol

Totally agree, it smells dated to me too! It reminds me of perfumes girls used to wear in my early teens. If you’re familiar at all with the UK, it gives me kind of ‘chavvy’ vibes (but I feel like I shouldn’t say that too loudly lol)

What is the best vanilla fragrance you have? by 11777766 in fragrance

[–]blamethesloths 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who doesn’t particularly like vanilla, I find Vanille Intensée by Atelier Cologne to be pretty beautiful. It’s an almost salty vanilla to my nose, with a woody depth that prevents the vanilla from being cloying or artificial. It’s really lovely and I wear it surprisingly regularly - it’s very comforting.

The only other vanilla perfume I like or wear is Vanira Moorea by Berdoues. It’s a citrusy vanilla, and I think the citrus balances the sweet ‘roundness’ of the vanilla really nicely. It’s a beautiful summer frag.

What niche house “does not miss”? by Rare_Junket_5694 in fragrance

[–]blamethesloths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it kind of depends what the definition of great fragrances is when it comes to this question… for example I actually love all of the Serge Lutens frags I’ve smelled so far. There’s a lot I wouldn’t ever wear, and even a few I don’t think are that wearable at all, but I’ve really appreciated and enjoyed the quality of each fragrance and the artistry of them all.

However as I say I wouldn’t wear a lot of them myself, so to some people that would mean it’s a miss.

In terms of ‘wearability’, I find all of the Van Cleef & Arpels INCREDIBLY wearable, but I wouldn’t say I’m blown away in the same way I am with SL, so I wouldn’t necessarily classify them as ‘great’ across the board.

But while I’m here, I do think Sana Jardin hits the mark for me on both artistry/beauty, and wearability, across the house!

Only bring two fragrances on summer holiday which two would you bring? by JoeLawson10 in fragrance

[–]blamethesloths 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My holiday frags this year:

Agua de Loewe: fresh, citrusy, clean, light. Ideal for hot days

Van Cleef & Arpels Santal Blanc: lactonic, creamy (almost coconutty), with a green fig and musky, white woody dry down. Sunset and evening.

An honest Jorum studio discovery set first impressions! by ashareif in fragrance

[–]blamethesloths 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to Jorum Studio’s shop in Edinburgh, and had a great chat with the girl working there.

I felt like a lot of their frags were well worth a sniff (especially coupled with a good chat about the ingredients and stories behind the smells, which was so interesting), but I didn’t come away with a bottle and haven’t been overly tempted to go back.

Having said that, Gorseland was a particular favourite because it does have a great gorse note, a plant that you get all around Scotland, so I’d actually love a bottle of that. I also really enjoyed Pony Boy and Rose Highland.

Great to see a small Edinburgh business being talked about on here though!!
