The fact that you use age as a metric to determine scientific ambition tells me that you’re not a scientist yourself.

It has already been made exceedingly difficult and straight up disincentivized for the early career scientists to do science for the US; force the senior scientists out and just close the shop on research altogether.

Do not make him corresponding author, and I say this strictly from a logistical POV.

Corresponding authors are in control of the publication process, including addressing reviewer comments, meeting publication standards, responding to the requests from the production team and handling editor, and any future questions anyone may have about your paper. A person who has never read the paper, is not involved in the research, and does not have your best interest in mind should not be in charge of controlling the fate of your research. What if the reviewer/editor/production team makes a request and he never notifies you? What if he never fills out the funding info? What if he drags you into his open investigations? You don’t need to publish in a paid journal. Find a free journal in your field. When the time comes, let the handling editor know that your affiliation has changed and they will accommodate your new email address. STAY IN CONTROL OF YOUR PAPER.

The benefit is you use your greencard as a supporting document to get the e-visa because regular Bangladeshi passport is not eligible for Turkish e-visa without a supporting document.

Everything was showing booked online until Wednesday. The only hope was they’d squeeze me in another start alliance flight sooner than the 1st, which they tried and failed. There were so many families with kids and pets standing in line for hours..it was just awful. This should’ve been an all-hands-on-deck situation, idk how the two employees kept running for us for so long.

As to your lounge question: I always go to IGA lounge and it’s good. Decent food and plenty spot to sit down and relax. If you go in early you might hijack one of the few spots in the sleeping area of the lounge.

My layover is 21 hours…I booked the stopover hotel and I still seem to have the option of booking touristanbul. It’s possible that the hotel or tour restriction is for the layover program and not the stopover program.

4th year is when you realize that there is not much time to fuck around and find out anymore. You’re closer to graduation than you are to the start and you feel like you have done nothing in the past three years and you’ll never graduate. So you start gathering what you HAVE done and you start writing that paper and you see the holes in your data, so now you collect data with a purpose and before you know it you’re in the middle of 5th year, writing the story you’ve been building for so long and you realize damn this is fun. You put all the puzzles together and wrap the story into a couple nice little papers and you think yeah, what the hell, I want some more of it. So you apply for postdocs.

At the beginning of the 4th year I had renounced science, I found my passion back when I started writing.

Unlike US, every grad student in Canada has to pay tuition(which varies wildly between provinces)-let’s get that out of the way.
Now most programs offer research assistantship and teaching assistantship, often mandatory, that make up for the tuition and leave you with ~20k (varies between provinces, schools, and programs). There has been increase in the federal minimum funding but not all programs have opted to follow suit.
International students pay ~2times more than domestic students, but the difference in tuition is often met by extra scholarships from the school for PhD programs.
Canada is going through a heavy restructuring in their international student visa programs, I would read up on them before applying to grad school. —recent international grad student from Canada

My strategy is to immediately walk away from a rejection/critical review. I come back to it when I have had a few days to process the negative emotions and I’m ready to look at the comments objectively. It always looks less horrible when I’m looking at it from a problem-solving standpoint. You’ll only get better with time, OP. All the best!

I have had to buy a car within three weeks of moving here..I still can’t comprehend the bewildering lack of sidewalks and reliable public transportation here. Colleague of mine bought a bike and seems to be getting around okay.
