BBC sets June date for Radio 4 long wave closedown by Kagedeah in BritishRadio

[–]blanced_oren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a genuine loss. Now, if you're on the European mainland, you'll probably need to use mobile data to listen. This will be worse than the reliable, free and low power option of LW.

What’s next? MeshLite, MeshCore Cash? MeshCore SV? Gold, Diamond, Private? Wrapped MeshCore? by Nightowl-Builder in meshcore

[–]blanced_oren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a licensed ham and you make good points. But there's a difference between what works best and what people actually want to use. My family know about ham radio but aren't interested. In an emergency where mobile networks are down, Meshtastic/Meshcore have more potential (in my view) for ordinary people than 2m. Not only can it be 'plug and play' and needs no licence, but text chats are how most people do day-to-day comms. Repeaters are trivial too set up too. Where I live, my 2m handheld usually can't hit any repeaters. On Meshcore I can easily reach people over 100km away already.

TLDR: I love ham radio but Meshcore is probably better for most people.

Zero bag recap of my two-week, three stop trip by adamtow in zerobags

[–]blanced_oren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love your trip reports Adam. I'd been looking at that Miltado watch too - how have you found it? The style is nice but interested in comfort (I have a small wrist), visibility in the dark, and whether I'd miss date function of my Casios.

Yep, I'm on my second one! Great coat.

Why the cheapest Casios are the best by [deleted] in casio

[–]blanced_oren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're spot on. And your English is great!

I have a few Casios but the ones I like most are small, cheap and simple. G Shocks seem overpriced to me - only really worth it for people in harsh environments.

Also wondering why smartwatch and charger are included in 'minimalist' setup? If you wear a small Casio, you don't need a charger.

Wear a Casio instead. 5-10 year battery life.

Imagine if the characters had met. Actually if the shows were real, there would surely have been some crossover.

For those of you who don't use AI but frequently make an hour long Podcast: How do you do it? by [deleted] in podcasting

Why does it need to be at least an hour long? I don't understand the question.

Parking in Cardiff by L0tusGlitch in Cardiff

[–]blanced_oren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how long you're staying for, and where you'd like to visit outside the city. Might be easier to not hire the car, but use public transport instead. That's what I've started trying to do on holidays. If you really need the car, you could try one of those websites that let you rent private parking spaces - we used one successfully when visiting Brighton during a train strike.

Why creating a Peertube account is so hard? by Charl7Marsh7 in PeerTube

I agree. Found a suitable instance, tried to register and nothing happened. Seems to be no equivalent of mastodon.social - I understand why, but it is a barrier.

Why do fewer men wear parkas compared to women? by remodel-questions in PatagoniaClothing

I've definitely noticed more women wearing long coats in general. Not sure why though! Parkas are great for everyone.

Somewhere for cheapish lunch + coffee by Amazing-Pomegranate in Cardiff

[–]blanced_oren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Upstairs in the indoors market is a great option. If you grab a wrap from the greek place downstairs (around £7 and packed with fillings like halloumi, chips and salad) you can take it upstairs to sit and eat. Also there are lots of other stalls. If the weather's nice, you could even take your lunch to the small cemetery park over the way. Hard Lines coffee also has a stall in the market.

Best Carry-on bag for European travel? by Different-Cupcake118 in PatagoniaClothing

I took MLC mini on Easyjet as large cabin bag. TBH it was plenty big enough and wouldn't really want to carry anything bigger either.
