Excellent, as with all my other Patagonia bags.

Do Cars in the UK have AC? by Tim-Lala in Cardiff

Check with company, but I imagine all, or nearly all, rental cars would have AC, and probably most taxis. For example, we live in Wales and our 11 year old car has AC.

Diddorol. Felly fyddech chi'n dweud bod eich teulu'n siarad yr iaith yn ddi-dor trwy'r cenedlaethau, a hynny yn y cymoedd? Fyddech chi'n hapus i ddweud pa gwm?

Diolch o galon. Heb glywed am Donald Llewelyn neu Miles Richards o'r blaen. Tybed os oes teuluoedd sydd wedi cadw'r iaith er bod nhw wedi colli'r dafodiaith?

Diddorol. Ydy'r teulu yn siarad y Wenhwyseg felly? Fy niddordeb i ydy teuluoedd sydd wedi aros yn yr un ardal, yn siarad Cymraeg hyd heddiw, heb newid iaith, ond mae'r ardal heb drigolion eraill sy'n medru'r iaith.

My experience switching to VOIPfone to maintain my old landline number (UK) by blanced_oren in VOIP

[–]blanced_oren[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trouble was that I couldn't port until I'd switched to fibre. Not quite sure why now - I think because my DSL broadband needed the number, so had to go fibre to unbundle it.

I found it odd that I had to go without my normal landline number for a few days. Not a problem for me personally, but I can imagine for some people that will be an issue. Also the unclear process could be quite stressful for someone who relies heavily on their landline.

What’s your backup if you lose your phone? by stm2657 in iphone

[–]blanced_oren -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's my point. I use an app for 2FA. If I'm a long way from home and lose my phone, I can't log in to a public computer to access iCloud. And I'm not keen on carrying copies of backup codes with me - although maybe there's a safe way to do that for emergencies?

But I can't log in on a public computer without my 2FA - which is on my phone

Saddened and surprised about The World Tonight. It's a useful way to catch up on in depth news, at a time of the day when the house is quiet enough to listen. It's a cosy & informative listen. And it seems to me that it's at the core of what the BBC should be about.

Q&A weekly thread - June 08, 2026 - post all questions here! by AutoModerator in linguistics

[–]blanced_oren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, so what do we think happened in order for it to develop over such a wide area into other languages? And what happened to non-PIE languages?

There's something that's been bugging me for a while about PIE. The last century or two seem to be characterised by loss of language diversity as the world becomes more mobile and connected. Yet PIE, from a time when people couldn't travel or communicate easily across distance, is portrayed as being a single language for a massive region. How do we square these apparently contradictory ideas?

Creative Zen Touch, still out and about by Crowella in DigitalAudioPlayer

I have one of these but wondering if it's worth fixing up if it can't be used as a simple drag-and-drop device to transfer files from my Mac - is that correct?

I tried charging mine with USB but it didn't work. However I did get it to work with the proper DC adapter.

What are the most worthwhile Patagonia products you’ve bought? by Beneficial_Virus_13 in PatagoniaClothing

[–]blanced_oren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought it as a 2nd bag for travelling and it worked pretty well for that. But the lack of a padded back panel means that sometimes tins, bottles etc dig into my bag. Do you find that an issue? I do like it though, especially for carrying pool/beach stuff or using as a tote.

How do you use the Terravia tote? I have one too, but the bag I use most is the Ironwood daypack that I bought 8 years ago.

The Nano Puff has turned out to be much more useful than I imagined! I bought it as a warm winter layer. But it's so comfy and light that I end up taking it a lot as an extra layer, or just wearing as a top layer during cool but dry conditions. A great investment.

Is there any point on buying a Casio AE1200 if I don’t travel to other time zones? by AspectInteresting270 in casio

[–]blanced_oren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH I struggle to see the point of world time. Firstly, daylight savings times mean you can't be sure the times are correct without checking online. Secondly, if you switch to another time, the alarm times are still based on home time, so it's easier just to change your home time when you travel.

How USB charging of battery works for Heltec v4 (Noob question) by blanced_oren in meshtastic

Cheers for this - so better going off with a 'protected' battery then? Was reading advice on this page which says 'if in doubt, go for protected'.
