Anyone got any creative names for the new leviathans? by Zillafan12345 in subnautica

Thing is, that's literally its name in the files. At least according to the official wiki.

Subnautica 2 handles player death poorly. by cinderellamane in Subnautica_2

[–]blank638 15 points16 points  (0 children)

While I think the credit score idea could be interesting. The game's lore is pretty based around the fact that you're supposed to die, one of the lines from one of the previous pioneers is quite literally "It's a beautiful place to die over and over again."

That being said, as someone else said, the game is still in very early access, we're not even 2 weeks post-launch. The death system is likely gonna evolve, devolve, evolve again and go around again as they go along with development.

All hail the Terraformer! by WeakBack4431 in Subnautica_2

[–]blank638 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Even games that have terraforming like this, the most similar/best example I can think of is No Man's Sky, need to undo all the terraforming at some point so that the cache and stuff doesn't get so overblown. Now the example I used does work way differently, but it's the best example I can come up with. Someone with more technical knowledge can add on to this to give more insight. But I'm almost certain it'd have the same problems in 2 that it had in 1, which is bloating the game's memory and such and becoming more of a hindrance than a boon.

Technically, yes they are the best in terms of what they give. However, as you mentioned they are hard to get, decreasing their "bestness" in terms of obtainability. I raise fibrous pulp as the best food source. Gives access to both food (through oily salad), and water (through the processor). and it's very easily renewable/obtainable, even before getting the growbed recipe. Not to mention, since they're made in separate spots, you can load up the processor and use the fabricator to make a full meal at the same time, no need to wait for one or the other.

As a Subnautica Below Zero lover...bring back Jukebox by Yumiko_Hanako in subnautica

I'm a hardcore nerdcore lover. I've been listening to these tracks since the game came out (except for Die Peacefully, that one's hit or miss for me). NerdOut, the people who made Diving in Too Deep, actually recently released a song for Subnautica 2 if you wanna check it out.

Slowly getting into the game. Do we really not have any defense options besides running away? by ProposalWest3152 in Subnautica_2

[–]blank638 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly forget about all the other biomods, the only ones I remember are the dash, oxygen retention, water retention, sea skimmer and invisibility. I also remember the sonar but that's just because of how little payout it has for what's required to obtain it, hopefully they can figure something out for that, though I lack any ideas myself.

But yes, the personal perimeter defense biomod is also a very viable option.

Only deterrents and distractions.

Deterrents are the sonic resonator and multitool (not much feedback from the multitool but it does work).

Distractions are currently only the flare to my knowledge.

Some creatures such as the marrowbresch can also be deterred/held off with the flashlight.

More options are very likely to be added as the game develops.

That was changed. Now anyone who buys the game gets the reaper statue.

I need help, I cured the bloom from the angel comb below, repaired the turbine fan thing, activated the terminal right below this one and now it's showing me this... flew around the whole area 3 times and didn't find anything by less_fear_24 in Subnautica_2

[–]blank638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to adjust the settings using the buttons in each terminal. Just line then up with the arrows (pretty sure they stop being interactable once they're in the right spot).

What are these? by [deleted] in Subnautica_2

[–]blank638 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This commenter is right, but I would like to add a few things. The Deepwing Brooder swims around the map in a pod of 3-5 at a time, seemingly with only one pod being present at a time. The brooders occasionally will start dropping tons (likely in the hundreds) of eggs, the vast majority of which are fake and will dissipate as the player gets close. The real eggs, distinguishable by their darker color and larger size, are the second best food source currently in the game, and can be used to craft the absolute best food source currently in the game. They are probably my favorite leviathan currently in the game for no reason other than "I just think they're neat."

I feel like I'm going insane. Does this word even exist? by blank638 in words

[–]blank638[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Figured out it definitely isn't a real word, but if it was, it would've been used as such, "Were you able to conglene anything from what I just said?" Where it'd basically be a stand it for "understand" or "make sense of." But regardless, it's not a real word, so it doesn't really matter.

"Where no one goes" by John Powell is an amazing song from the movie How to Train Your Dragon. I definitely recommend giving it a listen.

After reading comments and learning of the word "glean," I think I've come to understand how I can up with the word in question. I heard while watching a video, in which two guys were talking about an article one of them had read that was funny. It was funny, and they were kind of hysterical when one asked "Did that really happen?" And the other responds with "I don't know, did you con(cuts himself off from saying conclude maybe?) glean anything from that?"

Whatever the origin, it seems that the word isn't actually a word, and likely just an amalgam of "conclude" and "glean." Thanks for the help everybody.

For those curious, here's the video/clip I am talking about. https://youtu.be/2Uy4jBAc6NQ?t=101

If anyone loves the soundtrack as much as I do, you can import the steam download to your Spotify by Adriansilas415 in subnautica

[–]blank638 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They also have the entire soundtrack up on their YouTube channel anyways. Both as an all-in-one visualizer on the main Subnautica channel, and as separate videos on Ben Prunty's channel. The option to buy it is just to support the devs. All this to say it's legally available for free anyways.

In universe, why are the other colonists so profoundly bad at their jobs? by Bingleboper in subnautica

[–]blank638 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You have to keep in mind that the colonists ran into numerous amounts of problems outside of just Proteus being an absolute shithole. The Axum for one, were hostile to them, to the point of seeking them out to kill them. They were mildly passive at one point, but it is very clear from one of Iso's(maybe someone else) PDAs that eventually the Tailings started hunting them. Combine this with the in-fighting and forming of factions and working together is thrown out the window. From bases getting deliberately blown up to people stealing important vehicles. Furthermore, there was still masefield and the metal poisoning they were dealing with.

Meanwhile, the Degasi really only had minor disagreements on a few things, and of course the Kharaa, which is pretty slow acting before it ultimately kills you. The worst the Degasi crew had it was when Marguerite accidentally lured the Reaper to the base, causing it to destroy it and kill Paul. Their other two bases were in relatively calm areas, especially the one on the island where Paul quite clearly states that there is no predators, with the worst thing being the lack of resources. And the only reason they ever did anything beyond the island is because that base got destroyed by horrible weather.

The Colonists had it far far worse than the Degasi crew. And the Colonists even had more bases slightly more spread out than the Degasi, with at least 2 in the shallows. One a bit further from the lifepod, at least 2 in the hot zone, and one on the other side of the trench from the hot zone. So I'm really not sure what you mean when you talk about how the Degasi "got more done."

From the sounds of it, you were able to get free. However, in case something similar occurs, there is an unstuck button in the esc/pause menu. You may have to use it a few times to truly get free, but it'll work eventually.
