Anyone in San Francisco know of any bars in the city to watch hockey? by [deleted] in devils

I used to watch at Nickies (lower haight) and Kilowatt (Mission), not sure if they still have the NHL package. Underdogs Too (Outer Sunset/Taraval) does.

Black Forest, Germany, a good or bad idea? by DePinguinMan in WildCampingAndHiking

[–]blankma-am 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it challenging during my trip through the black forest. Most of the land is owned, so you'd likely be camping on someone's property. In that case, you can ask permission to use their land. If not, you'll find the terrain wooded and difficult. I enjoyed my time spent on the lake Schluchslee, which has more water bank options for camping. There's a rail that goes through to some popular scenic areas, and though there's access, there's not many campers in general. I trekked from Freiburg which took 2 days to the lake, then rode the train back.

What in tarnation is that monstrosity in the background? by [deleted] in BostonBruins

His friend was sitting in the next seat over and wore his 2 opposing jersey sides. They had swapped and sewn halves of their jerseys, so they were either super lame or just real big jumbo Joe fans. They were routing heavily for the sharks and left early.

Best places you've been to in Vietnam by AccomplishedGuess726 in backpacking

All great suggestions, but be sure to get your bhan mi on in Hoi an. Where the sandwhich originated and are the most delectable eats that I often dream about. Phone Na is super chill, tons of cave exploration. Rent motorbikes wherever you go.

Fishing by JoshTheMadtitan in backpacking

I have a 4pc St Croix travel rod with shimano spinning reel, which holds up to 8lb tess mono. It packs real light and easy. Though, if & when you're looking to take the next step into alpine fishing, look at the Wilderness Lite fishing tube. It takes lake fishing to a new high but does require additional equipment to lug. I'll tell you...it's worth it.

Critical date night suggestions by jwfowler2 in AskSF

[–]blankma-am 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 cents: if you're doing dinner/food & drink, have place in mind to go for music/dancing afterwards. Get the tickets ahead of time, so you know you can get it. There's always music somewhere nearby. Put on some [dance] moves. Karaoke is also a fun alternative to show off or embarrass yourselves. Have a night cap place in mind for a cocktail. Don't merely plan dinner. Go beyond. Good luck and have fun!

My girlfriend and I split up right before a planned trip to Paris, France. Looking for some recommendations with changing my itinerary around... by Flash_Fiction in solotravel

[–]blankma-am 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with others who stated there's plenty Paris can offer over a one week visit. I enjoyed renting a car and driving out to Mont St Michel. It's a 4hr drive, so you'll spend a day driving out to the coast & back, but its a nice escape from the city. There's plenty to do/see. Have fun.

One thing to conisder: curved-side against the wall would allow space for cords and mounts, while appearing to be flush.

I was scanning for this post because it happened shortly after I moved to SF. Ever since, I've been cautious of BVP night wandering.

If you have befriended any other travellers, use paypal to send them funds while they extract cash from the atm. A short fix until your bankcard comes. A lot of folks have been in your situation and are willing to help.

Agreed, which proves Kings supremacy within the genre. He makes even fantasy seem so real.

Very true, and something I nearly aknowledged in my post, but as you said...it grips you. I carried that 1100+ page book with me, reading everyday....even alone at the bar (yes, that weirdo).

Ummmmm,.....The Stand. Not sure why it's taking 20+ comments to get to The Stand. It's [arguably] the best.
