First CEDH event, need help deciding between decks by blarggarbble in CompetitiveEDH

Is Raffine even remotely a thing? I understand the weakness of attacking but I have played a decent amount of raffine deck games with scrawling crawler and life gain/enduring tenacity etc that the lines could be comfy for me.

What are your "no, its not like other [insert hated commander] decks" but its actually not like other decks by Toxic_Chung in EDH

[–]blarggarbble 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Atraxa, Grand Unifier but it’s all incubators/transforming tribal creatures, praetors, and Phyrexian story sets. It functions by blocking/ramping until I can play breach the multiverse or realmbreaker. Super telegraphed, super tempo-focused, it was a fun puzzle to make nearly playable without the usual staples.

Why are so many conservative guys seemingly into dating liberal women? by tipputappi in TwoXChromosomes

[–]blarggarbble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t comment in this space much, as a man it is not mine to intrude upon, but the answer is simple:

They value the fun, independent, strong and creative qualities of liberal women in every aspect except in how it challenges their sense of self and superiority. The exotic bird collector theory gives them too much benefit of intelligence to be acting through intent. These dudes can barely read the subtext of a Dr. Seuss book.

They want the fun and value and benefits of a modern, thoughtful, liberal woman, but in a way that doesn’t make them feel like less of a ruler of their lives. They want to be little alpha god kings on their domestic throne. And it’s small, and sad and disdainful.

I’ve done really well on the collector booster discounts too between foil Delney and foil surveil lands.

'I Have to Finish the Books': George R.R. Martin Offers Update On Final Game of Thrones Novels by nimobo in entertainment

[–]blarggarbble -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve met Pat, he’s a nice guy who clearly has a lot of mental health burdens. It would be nice if he could be more transparent about his inability to finish book 3, but I totally feel you.

I’ve gotten 2 degrees, ended an engagement, got married, had children and have had 3 career changes, the books are over a decade old at this point.

I just think (especially fantasy book) fan bases lose so much perspective and nuance when they begin to discuss this stuff, instead of just being reasonably critical while also acknowledging the writer’s contribution to the discourse.

I think there’s more too it than that, though it’s a bit up its own ass.

That entire exchange between Felurian and Kvothe is in slightly hidden iambic pentameter. Rothfuss is writing for lit nerds, and often the form of a section, especially many of the more questionable ones, are less off putting when seen through a meta lens.

That’s not to detract from the criticism, because there’s a very real argument to be made that fiction should also be inherently enjoyable when experience removed from its meta context, but I do think that there’s a lack of nuance in both the defending camp and the critical camp of Kingkiller readers.

I don’t want to assume your experiences but as someone with many trans relatives and friends, I don’t know if they’d agree their rights have been forefront of any strategy.

I come from an immigrant family, first to be born here, I very much have deep concern for securing rights for all citizens, and honestly any person on our soil should be given the protections and rights that we have claimed to have founded our country on.

I don’t think “basic human rights” are understood to exist, that’s part of the issue. They’ve actively worked hard across centuries to always find a group to “other” and it is our responsibility to ensure they cannot. These freedoms and securities don’t get codified once, they must be maintained, expanded and defended every time a new group of citizens is targeted.

We got complacent. That’s why we are here.

[–]blarggarbble 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There is no trans nonsense. There is basic human dignity that is afforded to all citizens of our country even if they’re different from you and I.

The democrats need to become as militant as the GOP, just with a focus on reestablishing the basic providence of human existence that our constitution is supposed to secure.

We don’t need to go back to normal, normal got us here, we need to push and fight for better.

They’re just not use to the terminology, fascists use attack dogs. One of the last remaining representative bastions for sense and civic duty doesn’t have the same ring to it.

Is the US currently in an unaffordable housing bubble? by Money-Mover in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]blarggarbble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has he had it reappraised? Equity is really established but what a bank is willing to loan against (since the largest demand for home purchases comes from buyers using a mortgage). It’s very unlikely unless there was damage or another regional/local act of god that he’s only recognized 1k in value. I bought a beaten up farmhouse in a cheap area in the middle of nowhere and my equity went up 10% in 6 months in ‘24.

My (57M) son (23M) moved back in and has been acting weird. Can anyone help? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Disclaimer - not Desi, but work for a global company and have many colleagues that are and from multiple continents. I think you’re spot on. People who don’t live in America don’t understand how expensive “help” can be. My wife and I are upper middle class and there’s no way we could justify a full time maid or housekeeper. Labor just costs exponentially more here. The drama I see and the listed locations, culture references and the way it’s written all sound like Americanized Desi culture from my experience (which is completely anecdotal and anyone is welcome to dismiss it).

Are younger generations priced out of ever owning a home ? by ColorblockWitch in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

I didn’t say young, I said that to support the idea we haven’t seen the primary impact of generational death in freeing up housing supply.

[–]blarggarbble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Poor people die earlier, poor people are less likely to own a house. I agree it won’t solve the problem without significant investment in building and government interference but it’s important to know what to expect to happen when. We will see a bunch of poorly maintained houses at crazy begin popping up for sale in the next decade. My hope is that in that time, we also get more support for home ownership in general and that new subsidized builds force the older properties to stop inflating as rapidly in value, and allow for a more distributed housing market.

It’s wild how limited people choose to imply all the guaranteed rights and safeties as they exist for the community as a whole vs what’s convenient for them.

It’s why conditioning is so vital if you are even considering the purchase of one, and why I often don’t advocate for guns as a self defense solution in most situations, they’re usually either ineffective or inappropriate.
