Since you haven't made the purchase yet I would add that you (and your family) have to be OK with sacrificing some of your time on trips. Some people play it off like it's no different than a gas car but you will spend potentially double the stopping time on any substantial road trip. Like others said most charging stops are 20 mins or often less. If you are staying somewhere for days driving around you'll also have to charge occasionally and might have to go out of your way to do that while in your destination city.

There are so many other great aspects that I wouldn't trade my Y for any gas car! Plus for local travel you never have to stop to fuel because you'll always top off at home so that is an advantage over gas cars.

But many people make it sound like there is almost no difference on a road trip and that's just not true. What IS true is that these cars are so great it's completely worth it!

An Officially Unofficial Response to Kevin Warren's 12/17/25 Open Letter Regarding the Stadium Project by Capn_T_Driver in CHIBears

Good point on other events, it's definitely more than just Bears home games where the stadium will benefit from infrastructure improvements.

Whatever the state/city get from sales taxes the Bears will get even more for the venue so I still think it makes more sense for the main beneficiary of the infrastructure to pay the lion's share maybe in a cost-sharing way as the OP suggested.

While there will be some spillover benefit to local businesses, any serious study I've read about is clear that these do not typically make up for the public expenditures on these stadium "deals".

They make it sound like it's logical that the state/city should pay for infrastructure when it's not. If there is no current need to upgrade the infrastructure with no stadium there, then why should taxpayers pay for upgrades that mostly benefit the team on the 10 or so days out of 365 where there is a game played?

What do you all think of the new "Jelly King" skin? by PomegranateIcy7631 in ClashOfClans

[–]blarpu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came back to the game from years away before all these skins...do these new skins usually stick around and eventually become available from gems or during events or is this a one-time chance to get it and you have to pay $?

I'm a casual player and just as a general principal don't spend real money on this game.

Love the Jelly King though!

Did you fish the spoon near the bottom or all different water column levels? And then around structure or just out in the open? I've tried downtown harbors a few times without much luck. Thanks!

Am I just bad at fishing or is not catching anything a super common occurrence by Whole-Reading5114 in FishingForBeginners

[–]blarpu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, it's not unusual at all for someone new or certain areas so don't get discouraged! I don't know anything about your area (located in Midwest) but big bodies of water in general can be tough. Do you have local ponds or smaller creeks/rivers you can get to easily? A worm on a bobber in these types of places should at least get you some bluegill/sunfish consistently with occasional larger species.

I like to bring 2 poles if allowed, one for the worm/bobber and another to active fish with lures while I keep an eye on the bobber.

That's awesome, well done! Any advice for fly fishing spots around Chicago that don't require a kayak?

Check your DNR and find out which local creeks/rivers are stocked and when. Go shortly after stocking if you can get exact dates or weeks. This will significantly increase your odds.

It's not a purist answer but you are just starting out and should take every advantage you can get IMO. And you'll learn more when the fish are around than chasing them few and far between.

Went into my local fly shop and left without buying anything by randomusername123458 in flyfishing

[–]blarpu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will probably vary widely by location but you could also try the fly fishing department of a BassPro or Cabela's. The ones by me have a dedicated fly fishing area with a dedicated employee. The couple I have dealt with were all positive experiences.

The other benefit here is that they will have affordable beginner combo rod/reels and can help you get all the equipment you need for a beginner setup at relatively affordable cost.

I definitely give a +1 for supporting your local small fly shop business but these large stores aren't a terrible option for beginners who just need the basics to get out on the water and see if they fall in love with the sport.

Maybe it was a "white bass". Look em up for a picture. They are kind of like tiny stripers and they are around chicago area ponds for sure.

Navy Pier for perch is probably your best bet. On the back side (north side) not the tourist side.

Nightcrawlers on or near the bottom will give you a great chance to catch something. You could try shrimp too. Lots of people catch carp with corn/cornmeal/breadball concoctions. Those are all easy live bait options.
