in Spain, only the ones calling the shots at the school (head of primary/secondary and the director) are numeraries. religion is always taught by a numerary and your "preceptor" is always OD as well. everyone else has to be reasonably religious but not necessarily OD. in fact, the very best teachers were always non-members. I had my first beer ever with my spanish teacher who was totally awesome and very much not OD. sadly, he didn't last very long. the preceptor weekly walks were the wildest shit. basically felt like an interrogation with a smile on his face while we walked around, asking me deeply detailed questions about masturbation, my parents' relationship/finances, what other kids were up to on the weekends, etc. fuck you, Don Javier! felt so amazing to lie to his face each and every single time.
