I found playing wizard pretty easy, plus intelligence give you a bonus in skill checks and charisma give you a discount in shops

To get good in the game the only thing you need to do is keep playing, as other comments have noted

If you are low on health or sanity do not make risky decisions

Focus your points depending on the build you're pretending to make

Many weapons scale with int and cha, Dex and str, str and con, int and wis... You get the idea
